Congratulations! You have made your first Chiropractic appointment at Chiropractic On Winston and now you may be wondering what to expect.
Whether you have seen a Chiropractor before or not, here at Chiropractic On Winston we pride ourselves in welcoming you to a relaxed environment with caring practitioners and staff.
Our professional staff will help you feel at ease and will guide you through the new patient and ongoing patient process and our professional Chiropractors will take the time to understand your presenting condition and treat you as an individual person.
So what happens at your first appointment?
When you arrive, our friendly reception staff will ask you to fill in a New Patient form which includes your personal details and relevant medical history. If you completed your paperwork online via the link sent to you by email or text, we appreciate it!
In addition to your details, we’ll also ask you to read, understand, and sign a consent form. The consent form is to provide you with an understanding of the possible risks involved with treatment. If you have questions, don’t worry – our chiropractors will take the time to run through the consent form with you.
Once all the paperwork has been completed, our chiropractors will take you through to the Chiropractic treatment rooms. In order to provide you with the best possible care, and to get a thorough understanding of your presenting condition, our chiropractors like to really go in depth with your history. The New Patient history includes:
The discussion of your presenting complaint – including when it started, is it getting better or worse, pain out of 10, etc. Previous and current medical history Family history Lifestyle and your health goals – we want to work with you to see how Chiropractic treatment can help you reach your goals. We can go on this journey of health together!By understanding your previous and current medical and family history we as Chiropractors may be able to ascertain any possible links to your presenting complaint, or something of relevance to us. This can help us be more thorough in understanding your body and assist us with coming to a diagnosis. We also believe getting to know you as a person is a critical part of treatment, as it lets us develop a treatment plan suited to you as an individual.
Once the history has been taken, we will then perform orthopaedic physical examinations, a neurological examination and range of motion assessments. This is to help us piece what might have caused your presenting condition.
When this has all been done, we sit down with you and talk about our findings, come up with a management plan, including recommended number of treatments, and goals that we can work on together and work towards. As mentioned previously, we go through the consent form and make sure that everything has been discussed, understood and agreed to.
If the treating Chiropractor ascertains that treatment is safe to perform then it is part of the consult. This might be in the form of manual spinal adjustments, therapeutic exercises, soft tissue manipulation, or any combination of techniques that you are comfortable with and have the best chance of positive results.
At the end of the consultation, we will perform post-treatment testing. This shows us what has changed and gives us an indication of how your body is moving and responding to the treatment. We also discuss any further questions you may have and then get you booked in for your next appointment!
It’s amazing how much we can get through in your first consultation and how thorough we can be! You will never never know until you give it a go!
We look forward to welcoming you to our practice here at Chiropractic On Winston. Feel free to reach out on (08) 7222 8701 if you have any further questions about booking your first appointment.
