Podiatry Week (previously known as Foot Health Week) is a time to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of your feet, which are often overlooked in our daily lives.

Typically held during the second week of October, it is an opportunity to highlight the significance of foot health and to educate individuals about the many roles of Podiatrists in helping to maintain and improve your health.

What does a Podiatrist do?

Podiatrists are medical professionals specialising in the care and treatment of lower limb conditions. Our expertise covers a wide range of issues related to foot health, including common issues such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, diabetic foot complications and many more. Here are some ways we can help you:

Diagnosis and Assessment: Podiatrists will accurately diagnose your lower limb conditions through a thorough physical assessment. This will include assessments of the range of motion of the joints in your lower limbs, assessing your overall posture (including your foot posture) and also a gait analysis. We might also require additional diagnostic imaging to identify any underlying problems and may provide you with an imaging referral Treatment and Management: With a confirmed diagnosis, we will provide a customised treatment plan based on your individual needs. This may include regular nail and skin care appointments, shockwave therapy, low level laser therapy, SWIFT microwave therapy, customised orthotics and an individualised exercise program

3. Preventative Care: We also focus on preventative care, by offering advice on proper footwear and general foot health education to keep your feet healthy and keep you moving pain-free

4. Diabetic Foot Care: Individuals with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing foot complications. Podiatrists are trained to perform a thorough neurovascular assessment and provide specialised care for patients with diabetes, helping to prevent and manage any foot-related complications

5. Sports-related Injuries: Podiatrists can provide specialised care to treat and prevent sports-related injuries of the lower limb and help athletes return to sport safely

6. Paediatric Foot Care: Podiatrists treat lower limb conditions in children all the time, including ingrown toenails, growing pains, warts, gait abnormalities and many more!
