Did you know that our podiatrist Sophie Young is currently undertaking further study to receive her Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines? This means that by the end of the year, she will be able to prescribe medications without you needing to return to your GP for the script. Some common things that this can include will be antibiotics for those infected ingrown toenails and anti-inflammatories or analgesics for pain relief.

Sophie has also been working hard in her spare time, brushing up on their ultrasound techniques. This will enable her to use ultrasound guidance to perform cortisone injections. Cortisone guided injections are a great treatment option for plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis and forefoot bursitis and neuromas.

To attain her Endorsement Sophie will need to complete a minimum of 150 hours of supervised practice with medical specialists, including podiatric surgeons, dermatologists, rheumatologists and complex wound care nurses. She also has to submit 15 case studies discussing patient history including current medications and allergies and how this will influence their prescription choice to the regulatory board.

Feel free to have a chat to Sophie about it during your next consultation. Sophie loves talking about all the knowledge she is gaining and the amazing expansion of scope that it will bring to the clinic.
