Looking to extend your stay in Australia?
Here’s the top courses that can lead to Permanent Residency!
1. Any Bachelor of Master Degree
The Subclass 485 Graduate Visa is a temporary visa that allows international students who have recently graduates from an Australian education institution to stay in the country and work 2 years or more with unlimited work rights.
There are two streams; the Graduate Work stream is for students who have completed a qualification in a field that is in demand in Australia, while the Post-Study Work stream is for students who have completed any higher education degree.
International students can use this visa to obtain a further visa with better work rights, leading to permanent residency later on by gaining relevant work experience and meeting the eligibility criteria.
2. Information Technology
IT professionals are in high demand in Australia to fill skills shortages, so many employers are willing to sponsor skilled workers for visas. This is particularly true for specialisms such as cybersecurity, software development and artificial intelligence.
3. Commercial Cookery
There is a huge gourmet food culture in Australia which means there is a demand for skilled chefs. The hospitality industry is also one of the largest employers in the country and there is a significant shortage of chefs, meaning there is plenty of opportunities if you are qualified in this area. Cookery can lead to a career as a skilled chef and a pathway to PR.
4. Trades
There is also a lot of demand in trades such as motor mechanics, plumbing, carpentry and electrical work. Those with relevant qualifications and work experience may be eligible for a permanent visa through the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189). Many international students start their journey by studying such trades and end up obtaining PR at the end of their studies and after acquiring the relevant work experience.
5. Teaching
The Australian government recognises the importance of education and has made significant investments in the sector, which had resulted in a surge in job opportunities for qualified teachers – specifically in Early Childhood, Secondary School and Special Education Teachers.
After completing a Bachelors in Teaching or a Masters in Education, you could qualify for a temporary or permanent visa.
6. Engineering
There are many opportunities for skilled engineers to migrate to Australia as it is a high-demand industry. Engineers with a degree from a recognised insitution and relevant work experience may be eligible for a permanent visa, such as the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189). You can complete a Bachelors in Engineering or Diploma in Engineering whilst on a Student Visa in Australia.
7. Social Work
Social Work courses are becoming more and more popular worldwide. This is one of the careers listed in the Medium and Long Term Skills Shortage List (MLTSSL), which is a list of skilled occupations which are in high demand in Australia. This means that you could study Social Work whilst on a Student Visa and proceed to apply for permanent residency when you have completed your studied and gained the relevant work experience.
