For 26 years the Australian National Piano Award has celebrated shining the spotlight on the best classical musicians in Australia. Tony Lee, Alex Raineri, Jayson Gillham and Amir Farid are just a few who have won the crown and we invite you to cheer on the next generation of 14 outstanding pianists chosen to perform at this year’s Award.
Covering challenging masterworks of Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Schubert and Debussy this fast-paced competition showcases the pianists’ passion, talent, charisma and their ability to memorize a huge range of repertoire. During Rounds One & Two, the Semi Finals all the way to the Grand Final; every pianist gets at least two recitals each. Join us in Shepparton during 3 – 8 September to support these brilliant musicians on the rise who are playing for $68,000 in cash, prizes and recordings in over 33 recitals and for your all-important applause.
Our esteemed judges; Gerard Willems, Joanna MacGregor and Lance Coburn a few months ago deliberated overseas during their ‘blind CD’ auditions to select the best and they will be listening intently to every note played.
Meet Berta Brozgul, Timothy Chiang, Longjie Cui, James Guan, Joshua Hooke, Vatche Jambazian, Enrico Mainas, Robbin Reza, Oliver She, Rachael Shipard, Jeremy So, David Soo, Hank Xiang and Alexander Yau in Shepparton, Victoria.
This Award is known for being special and unique. It takes a dedicated music-loving team in this regional town to stage this professionally run event every two years. From start to finish the red carpet is rolled out for the musicians and there are many celebrations held during the week. Including the Mayors welcome for the pianists who are hosted by local families, they are driven to and from the Riverlinks venue every day they perform.
On Friday September 7 an impressive Gala dinner follows the showdown of 5 pianists when they play in the Semi-Finals that afternoon. All of this leading up to the Grand Finals on Saturday night where the top 3 pianists vie for the winners title… followed by the prize ceremony and after party, to which all the audience are invited to congratulate the pianists who competed in 2018.
By the end of the Australian National Piano Award many of these inspiring pianists will be recognised by you and noticed around the world.
