‘Pitter, Patter’ Why LETTERKENNY is ending? FINAL SEASON now on SBS On Demand

Well that’s a Texas sized 10-4, the final season of Letterkenny is now on SBS On Demand. Find out why the hallmark show is coming to an end.

We’ve known for a little a while at TV Blackbox that the new Season 12 of Letterkenny was coming to SBS On Demand post-boxing day. Letterkenny has had a history of dropping a new season every year around Boxing Day.

To our surprise though, SBS On Demand premiered it as the ‘Final Season’.

SBS On Demand’s listing of the new Letterkenny season said:

“All good things must come to an end, eh? Break out the maple leaf handkerchiefs to bid farewell to the residents of Letterkenny, Ontario.”

Just before Christmas, Letterkenny creator Jared Keeso and Variety Magazine have announced that Season 12 will be the final season of the hit show Letterkenny, a Canadian treasure which has also struck a cord with many Australians.

Keeso does not do many interviews but he did an exclusive interview with the official Letterkenny fan podcast, The Produce Stand and Bell Media.

“I think we’ve done everything that we can do on that show,” replied Keeso, who plays lead character Wayne.

“I’ve written, or had a hand in, writing all 81 episodes. I’m always looking for something new and exciting to do with the characters, a new opportunity to develop them, to help the audience understand them just a little bit better. And it gets tough around the 50 mark, and it gets really tough around the 70 mark. I guess I decided at the 80 mark that that was it.”

The final season runs a different pace to the earlier ones. For a show with a groundhog-day mentality and time does not necessarily pass – even though the season do – there’s a strong story arch in this final season.

Dary is questioning his identity as a long-standing hick, Squirrelly Dan’s relationship with a Mennonite is getting that bit more serious. After a trip to Mexico, Katy still wishes she was sipping Margaritas along the Mexican Gulf. Wayne’s who is a stickler for change is bewildered why everyone is moving on even though his ‘sweetie’ Rosie is talking him into hanging up his title as the toughest guy in Letterkenny.

Letterkenny is a show to watch with the captions on as these fast-talking small-town Canadian’s roast each other and get up to all kinds of shenanigans but inside jokes asides, it resonates with anyone who’s ever lived in a small town. It falls into the Seinfeld genre of shows (about nothing) but it’s loyal and savage characters quickly find their way into your heart.

After 12 seasons 74 episodes and 5 holiday specials, Letterkenny is over and out.

Even though the show has wrapped, the Letterkenny universe will continue with its spinoff Shoresy, with two seasons – and a third currently in production – also available on SBS, with ads.

Some seasons Letterkenny are also available ad and ad-free on Binge.

All 12 seasons of Letterkenny and 2 seasons of Shoresy now available on SBS on Demand.
