ABC is set to tonight deliver a glittering end to the year with its live New Year’s Eve Fireworks coverage from the iconic Sydney Opera House’s Northern Broadwalk.
This year, the celebration boasts an impressive lineup, including Charlie Pickering and Zan Rowe as hosts, alongside triple j’s newest addition, Concetta Caristo.
The evening’s proceedings will commence at 8:30 pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, featuring a traditional Welcome to Country, an exciting sneak peek at Muster Dogs Series 2, and insights into the creation of the world-renowned fireworks display. Plus, the Heeler Family is set to deliver an unexpected treat.
As the evening progresses, from 9:10 pm, viewers will be treated to a stellar concert line-up, gearing up the nation for the countdown.
The stage will be graced by Australian music luminaries like Jessica Mauboy, Genesis Owusu, and the acclaimed Casey Donovan, among others. Adding international flair to the evening, Harry Connick Jr. has been announced as a late addition to the already star-studded roster.
“I’m incredibly excited to be taking part in the ABC’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. New Year’s Eve is such a special time of year, and it is a great honour to be welcoming in 2024 in Australia.
I’m so happy to be performing alongside some of Australia’s greatest talent – whether you’re at the concert in person, or watching at home on TV, it will be night to remember.”
The night promises an extravagant 15-piece live band and heartfelt tributes to the musical legacies of Burt Bacharach, Tina Turner, and Sinead O’Connor.
In collaboration with the City of Sydney, the sky above will illuminate with a world-class fireworks display, ushering in the new year with a bang.
Kath Earle, ABC’s Head of Arts, Music, and Events, expressed excitement for the upcoming broadcast, highlighting it as a night of top-tier Australian music, entertainment, and the spectacular fireworks.
“NYE is one of our favourite nights of the year! We love working with our partners City of Sydney on our show-stopping NYE broadcast.”
“Always a night to remember, we can’t wait to celebrate with people all around the world showcasing a wonderful night of Australian music, entertainment and of course fireworks.”
The NYE 2023 concert will broadcast across the entire ABC network including ABC TV, local ABC Radio and streamed live on ABC iview and across ABC TV+iview social channels.
International audiences can also tune in to ABC Australia, and the firework displays will be audio described for the vision impaired and available on the ABC listen app.
Your ABC NYE 2023 starts on Sunday 31 December at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
