If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably decided to make the switch to a natural deodorant – hooray!

While there are so many benefits to making the switch (hello naturally less B.O. and numerous environmental benefits), transitioning from your conventional deodorant or antiperspirant to a natural deodorant may feel a bit daunting at first. To make the transition easier we would love to share with you some information on what to expect when making the switch.

Before we dive into what you can expect while making the transition to a natural deodorant, let’s unpack how they work compared to a conventional deodorant.

How do natural deodorants work?

Unlike conventional anti-perspirant deodorants, natural deodorants do not stop your body from perspiring, rather, they work to combat odour and odour-causing bacteria, hence preserving your natural skin microbiome.

Mainstream deodorants and anti-perspirants contain ingredients such as propylene glycol and aluminium salts, which block sweat glands and stop the natural process of sweat. Sweating is not a body action we want to stop as it allows our bodies to excrete toxins and maintain a healthy body temperature.

Our Natural, Zero Waste Deodorant is powered by effective botanical actives including Magnesium Hydroxide, Zinc Ricinoleate and Triethyl Citrate along with anti-microbial Coconut Oil. They work to neutralise odour-causing bacteria by trapping and absorbing odour molecules and inhibiting the breakdown of sweat by bacteria which causes body odour.

The formula also contains Bamboo extract, which helps to absorb sweat and moisture, keeping your underarms fresh and dry.

What to expect when making the switch to a natural deodorant

You’ll sweat, but you’ll be B.O. free

It’s important to remember that natural deodorants are designed to allow your body to sweat the way it is supposed to do. Sweating allows our bodies to excrete toxins and maintain a healthy temperature, so it’s not something we want to stop!

Sweating is not the cause of body odour. Body odour is caused by the bacteria on your skin reacting with your sweat. Natural deodorants are designed to neutralise this bacteria and therefore prevent B.O.

A great tip for keeping your underarms dry is top opt for a natural deodorant that contains Bamboo. Bamboo can hold up to 200% its own weight in sweat and oil, so is fantastic for keeping you dry and fresh throughout the day, without blocking your sweat glands and stopping your body from sweating completely.

Our Natural, Zero Waste Deodorants are powered by botanical actives such as Magnesium Hydroxide, Zinc Ricinoleate and Triethyl Citrate, which work to prevent and neutralise odour-causing bacteria and neutralise the body's natural pH whilst allowing the body to perspire.

Forget conventional aerosols and roll-ons

Our deodorants are Zero Waste – which means that once you are finished the product, there is literally nothing left over!

This also means that you will be applying the product with your hands, which may feel a little foreign and take some getting used to.

To apply your natural deodorant block, simply swipe it across your underarms 2-3 times, applying some slight pressure. The warmth of your skin will soften the product to facilitate application.

Not all natural deodorants are created equal

Not all natural deodorants are created the same, use this checklist when searching for a natural deodorant to ensure you are getting the most out of your product:

Contains powerful actives to neutralise body odour – we love Magnesium Hydroxide and Zinc Ricinoleate. Includes something to absorb moisture to ensure you are kept fresh all day – we love Bamboo No anti-perspirants (such as aluminium). Sweat is needed to excrete toxins and regulate temperature, so it is not something we want to stop. Organic and sensitive skin friendly ingredients (i.e. no bicarb) No synthetic fragrances

Minimal packaging is always a bonus, preferably zero waste
