How far would you go for the skin of your dreams?

Many of us want beautiful skin, but aren’t willing to break the bank or go through painful procedures.

If you’re wanting to target premature ageing or attain youthful and radiant skin without the use of botox and fillers, then a Vampire Facial may be the game-changer you need in 2022. With the latest technology, it is now possible to follow the same regime that Kim Kardashian swears by for her coveted skin.

The Vampire Facial Explained

A Vampire Facial is simply a facial treatment using PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) technology to boost your natural collagen production and deliver an angelic glow.

These facials have been a Hollywood Celebrity go-to for the last few years, gaining popularity since Kim Kardashian and Hayley Baldwin showcased their results on social media. Previously expensive and relatively hard to find, PRP and PRF treatments are now offered in the world’s best skincare clinics and luxury spas.

If you’re located in Australia, the Hair & Skin Science group of clinics are the first to launch the Vampire Facial as of March 2022.

This TGA-approved treatment is safe, and basically works by re-injecting your own platelet-rich plasma containing white blood cells and growth factors back into your skin.

Our natural growth factors include collagen and elastin, and these are stimulated as the skin’s natural wound healing response is activated. Most importantly, tissue regeneration takes place in a way that is natural and familiar to your cells. This leads to the creation of the type of plump, youthful skin you may recall from your early 20’s when your body naturally produced high levels of growth factors.

The Vampire Facial effectively treats multiple concerns, the most common ones being lines and wrinkles, textured skin, or darkness and pigmentation.

What To Expect

The Procedure

Before undergoing this treatment, you will have a professional consultation. All pretreatment requirements will be discussed, such as medications to avoid and precautions to take.

A serum is then applied to create slip and comfort throughout the process. Then your own platelet-rich plasma is re-injected into your skin through very fine needles (similar to fillers and injectables, but using your own blood rather than a foreign substance). Slight tingling or pressure may be felt as these injections infuse the plasma into various parts of the face, stimulating collagen and elastin production and increasing cell turnover in the deeper layers. The entire process takes about 45 minutes. Any specific and optional requests are also accommodated, such as re-injecting the plasma into more delicate areas (the skin around the eyes or mouth for example) as they often require more lifting and tightening with age. After-care protocols are discussed.

Frequency, Recovery & Aftercare

Professionals advise it is best to plan this treatment at least 4-6 ahead of any big events, because your collagen is being rebuilt. This is the length of time in which you will see new, beautiful skin emerging.

For best results, you should invest in least 3-4 treatments, approximately a month apart, and then discuss a maintenance schedule with your skincare specialist. Many women in their 30’s and 40’s should consider an annual or bi-annual treatment for maintenance. The results can last up to 18 months each time.

Since PRF stimulates the body’s natural healing response, there is no prolonged recovery. No foreign substances are being injected into the body, most people do not experience any pain or side effects.

Post-treatment

Post-procedure, there is visible redness and the skin will feel sensitised or tender, similar to a sunburn. Healing can take anywhere from a few days up to a week.

After this time, your skin will look fresh, supple, hydrated, and radiant, as the results start to appear. However it is advised that you should:

-Avoid makeup for the first days, then ensure you use high-quality natural or mineral based makeup with soothing ingredients

-Avoid direct sunlight, and use a good quality, physical (not chemical) sunscreen

-Use high-quality skincare that is natural or organic, meaning without toxins or irritants. Look for hydrating, soothing ingredients that will help expedite recovery.

-Avoid any in-salon or at-home procedures as well as ingredients that might cause sensitivity (such as  peels, waxing, or ingredients like Retinol or Vitamin C)

Advanced Results

This treatment stimulates the creation of new collagen and elastin, creating noticeable improvements in the skin. An overall facial glow, tight and toned skin, and less visibility of lines and wrinkles are common results.

The following skin concerns can also be targeted and improved dramatically, though individual results may vary depending on a variety of factors:

Dark Under Eye Circles Acne scarring Lines, Wrinkles, and Slackened Skin Uneven or Dull Skin Tone Enlarged Pores Thinning or Sagging Skin Pigmentation or UV Damage Loss of Shape or Tone around Neck and Jawline

Those wanting a preventative measure of ageing, or suffering from hair loss can also experience advanced results.

How is PRF/PRP different from Micro-needling?

Firstly, PRF is very similar to PRP but is the second generation treatment, making it a more advanced version. This is because blood is spun at a lower speed which preserves the integrity and quality of cells, making the platelet concentration much higher.  Also,  it does not utilise an anticoagulant (acid-citrate dextrose) when the blood is spun. This means that a higher number of growth factors are released for a more prolonged period after the procedure, resulting in ongoing improvements in the skin.

Secondly, there is often a misconception that PRP/PRF is the same thing as microneedling, but there are some key differences. The main one being that microneedling simply uses micro-needles to penetrate the skin and create punctures that trigger the natural wound healing response, but nothing is injected or re-injected into the skin (such as your own plasma).
