High Cheese is a four tiered affair, with both the sweet and savoury side of cheese celebrated in all of its deliciousness. And all the favourites feature - from camembert to brie to cheddar to blue to goats cheese...
As soon as I saw High Cheese advertised by the ever lovely Crown Perth at their beautiful champagne lounge La Vie I was on board. I saw it on Facebook on the Thursday afternoon and on Friday morning at 7am I called Crown to make a booking for their first day of the offering, which was October 23rd. I started work early on the Friday so I could finish earlier and be there for 4pm. Oh it was on!
I’d missed Crown and hadn’t really visited there for a meal since COVID restrictions closed it down. So it was really lovely to get back. Particularly when we went in all its Spring time loveliness, it had floral displays everywhere.
So we were headed to La Vie, Crown’s indulgently plush champagne lounge. Decor feels a little bit Parisian, complete with chandeliers, leather sofas, pretty, ornate lamps and rich tones of reds and gold. It draws you in, takes you away and really is the ideal setting for a glass of champagne.
Escape to the opulent sophistication of La Vie Perth and indulge in our unparalleled selection of Champagne, fine wines, spirits and elegant cocktails. The La Vie bar interior takes inspiration from Champagne, with its rich colour palette of red, peach and gold with characteristic bubbles associated with this famed region in France.
Sweet dreams are made of cheese. La Vie’s High Cheese celebrates France’s two great loves, Cheese and Champagne.
High Cheese is a four tiered affair, with both the sweet and savoury side of cheese celebrated in all of its deliciousness. And all the favourites feature – from camembert to brie to cheddar to blue to goats cheese and don’t forget ricotta.
Here is the menu:
Baked Camembert Fondue Studded with Rosemary & Garlic, served with Honey Assortment of Bread, Crackers & Lavosh
Brie layered with Fine Herbs, Walnut & Maple
Warrnambool Heritage Cheddar & Blue Cheese
Goat’s Cheese, Honey Toasted Pumpkin Seed & Apricot Tarts
Muscatels, Quince Jelly & Fresh Pears
Thinly Shaved Prosciutto & Coppa Cornichons, Olives, Rocket Leaves & Sun Blushed Tomatoes
Sweet Crust Cannoli filled with Ricotta Cheese, Vanilla Cream & Pistachio Crumble
White & Dark Chocolate Nut Fruit
Burnt Honey Cheese Cake
And doesn’t it present beautifully!
So you could opt just to enjoy this delicious cheese fest and the four tier stand of cheesy treats is $30 per person, but why not add some sparkling to really get the party started. There are two options, here, with a flute of Moët & Chandon Impérial Champagne (which takes your price to $45 per person), or embrace the luxury with a champagne flight, for $60 per person. I’d highly recommend the latter, it’s a delight and features Chandon Brut, Moët & Chandon Impérial Rosé, Ruinart Blanc de Blanc and Veuve Clicquot Rich. Here’s cheers to that!
For a cheese lover, this is an entirely lovely way to spend a few hours. A beautiful spot, enjoying a glass of fizz and fabulous conversation, over a whole lot of fromage.
Be sure to book though, because it’s a popular one. Just call Crown Perth on 08 9362 7551. High Cheese runs from Thursdays to Sundays from 3 til 6pm. You’d brie mad to miss it.
