For the past few years I’ve been hunting down these artisans inspired by Australian plants and flowers for my own homewares and accessories collection. I have a huge list of favourites that I am going to share with you here in future. Let’s kick that off now with some ideas for an Australian native themed Christmas table and decor. From tree decorations to tableware, there is a beautiful Aussie floral item to replace every piece of kitsch and curio in your seasonal decorations box. Here are my favourites.

Christmas Ornaments

Robin Wells

Perth jewellery artist Robin Wells makes the most delightful and delicate items inspired by our natural flora. She recently launched a line of Christmas ornaments inspired by our native flora that are simply exquisite. You’ll find flannel flowers, desert peas, kangaroo paws, banksias, gum nuts, grevillea and more, all arranged in repeating snowflake patterns to hang on your tree or around your home.

RJ Crosses

Rebecca from RJ Crosses makes darling ceramic native floral Christmas ornaments and gift decorations in a wide range of designs. Stocked by Have You Met Charlie and a few others around the country, her designs sell out quickly so you’d better be quick!

Christmas Cards & Wrap

Earth Greetings

If you’re after more ideas for your Christmas cards and wraps, look no further than Earth Greetings. Stocking native inspired designs from a range of artists including Victoria at The Scenic Route and the wonderfully bold graphic designs of Claire Ishino, amongst others. Claire’s Bush Candy design is my favourite. 

Studio Nukilinsky

This list would not be complete without including the botanical treasures painted by WA artist Philippa Nikulinsky. Her Christmas range includes festive floral illustrations of Banksia, Kangaroo Paw, Hakea, WA Christmas Tree, and a fun Qualup Bell design. The Christmas Tree decorations are sold out, but you could always pre-order for next year! 

Tableware & Decor

Denise McDonald DM Pottery

Denise McDonald is best known for her Flannel Flower range and they would look beautiful on a native Christmas themed table. Her ceramic tableware uses a 100-year-old Flannel Flower pattern sourced from a Federation window pane in her family’s home. I have her tea light set in white, but I would love the blue or green vases too. Oh and if you’re quick – she has some divine Christmas tree ornaments too!

Nature to Grain

Nat and James from Nature to Grain make stunning timber and resin platters embedded with Australian dried flowers, seeds and leaves. I love my Nature to Grain platter so much – each creation is unique and truly to be treasured. If you want one for your Christmas table I’m sure you’ll need to get in quick – or order ahead for next year! This is the perfect way to add a touch of wildflower love to your Christmas grazing plate. 

Jocelyn Proust

Australian pattern design queen Jocelyn Proust will bring the bright colours of our floral treasures to your table. Choose the dramatic Sturt’s Desert Pea red table runner, or a bright summery graphic Banksia and Honeyeater print. But you’d better be quick as her items sell out fast.

Ink and Spindle

For a more pared back Australian aesthetic, choose the ever so stylish decor designs of Ink and Spindle. For Christmas you could decorate your table with their green silky oak design tableware and add red grevillea flowers for vivid pops of colour as a table centrepiece.

Hunter Candles

For your scented centrepiece, look no further than Hunter Candles. It is hard to find candles that are genuinely Australian bush inspired. But this one ticks all the boxes for me with blend of Blue Gum, Lemon Myrtle and Wattle fragrance in a hand poured soy wax.

Ruth de Vos

Next up is the fabulously talented WA artist Ruth de Vos. Ruth’s Australian floral quilt projects are simply divine. I wish I could sew well enough to make one! They would make an excellent gift for the skilled stitcher and native lover. But for the rest of us you can purchase Ruth’s beautiful graphic floral designs on lovely linen cushion covers. Their red/pink and green tones on a natural linen backing would make for a lovely earthy Christmas theme. 

She also makes this range of Eucalyptus vinyl stickers that you could use to decorate glassware, jugs, dress up plain wrapping paper and so much more.

Jenny Jones Rugs

So this idea is very much taking it to the next level! But Jenny’s divine Australian floral rugs are just so beautiful that I had to find a way to include them on this list. Her stunning Waratah designer rug made from hand spun wool and pure silk makes for a striking statement piece all year round, but the red and green colouring makes it the perfect rug at Christmas.

Angus & Celeste

Decorate your serving table with the bold range of Australian botanical serving ware from Angus & Celeste. With a wide range of designs to choose from including Eucalyptus flowers, Grevillea, Acacia, Banksia and more – you’ll find platters, plates and vases with something to suit every table.

Utopia Goods Textiles

The talented team of Bruce Slorach and Sophie Tatlow at Utopia Goods Textiles design intricate native floral patterns applied to tablecloths, platters, scarves, furniture and more. But my favourites for Christmas are the Angophora Cherry Red timber tray and the grand State of Waratah tablecloth in bold red and green.

Banksia Blue Studio

Gold coast designers Banksia Blue Studio have created a stylish range of Christmas table decor inspired by native botanicals. My favourite is the Bottlebrush design, but there are plenty of other designs to choose from too!

Pillow Talk

Priced so everyone can afford to add a little of the Australian bush to the table this Christmas, the native botanical range from Pillow Talk includes paper napkins, gift tags, wrapping paper, placemats, linen and cards.

I applaud all these artists and businesses for giving our native flora a featured place in their ranges this Christmas. I hope you have found something here to inspire your own Christmas spread.
