Escape rooms are a great family activity. Solving puzzles, discovering clues, working together whilst locked in a little room. It’s guaranteed fun. But, what if you weren’t locked in a little room? What if your escape room was the entire South Australian Museum? Instead of frantically searching an enclosed space for keys and clues and hidden objects – you and your family could be racing through the Museum, searching for the answers you need amongst the incredible collections of the South Australian Museum.

This is exactly what you’ll find when you play The Shadow Initiation at the South Australian Museum. Armed with a tablet that will supply you with instructions, wayfinding and most importantly, the ticking clock and the many, many challenges ahead of you, you will play your way around the Museum in groups of up to 4 people. You’ll search the Pacific Cultures gallery for hidden symbols, solve codes disguised within coral reefs in the Biodiversity gallery, puzzle riddles in the Egyptian gallery and find and unlock secret doors in the Polar collection.

With a fixed time in each part of the Museum and an hour in total, you’ll find yourselves strategically (or frantically) attempting to work you way through as many of the over 40 puzzles and challenges available to get the highest score you can. This is not a leisurely stroll through the Museum. You can do that afterwards. This is a quest. A mission. A race against the clock, where you’ll uncover secrets and hidden treasures that you never knew the Museum held. The challenges are exactly that… a challenge. So, this is an activity recommended for the bigger kids (and the grown ups, why should kids have all the fun?!). 10 years and older will get the best out of the experience and as young as 7 will manage with adult assistance.

If you’re looking to experience the Museum in a way you never have before, with an activity that is actually fun for the whole family, The Shadow Initiation is the perfect outing. Just $49 for 4 people (or just $35 for Museum Members), it’s a really affordable activity that has some sneaky education thrown in there as well. Groups of more than 4 people are recommended to hire multiple tablets and race against each other in a battle to the top of the leaderboard.

An escape room without walls, a chance to unlock the secrets of the South Australian Museum. Race against the clock and play The Shadow Initiation today.

Book online at www.samuseum.sa.gov.au/shadow-initiation or directly at the Museum Information Desk.
