This year it was our turn to host our Annual Friend’s dinner and given that we are in the fancy new house I thought that I better go extra fancy and make it a black tie event. Because…why not! Everyone loves a chance to get their fancy suits and frocks out and I had just the backdrop. This year there were 19 of us for a sit down dinner….I split the food between the group with some people on canapés, others the mains and then others dessert and a frangelico station.

I set the table with some bits I found last minute at Reject Shop (Christmas trees and reindeers and candles) Baubles (Bed bath & Table) Christmas napkins (Kmart – you can find lots of tutorials on how to fold these online)  and foraged pine & smoke bush and flowers from Harris Farm.

We moved out one of the couches and added two trestles to the existing family dining table and there was plenty of chairs for us to use from outside and the formal dining table. Fairy lights are old strings I got from Target many moons ago. There’s not much I love more than when the candles are lit and waiting for the first guest to arrive to pop some champagne.

Is there anything better than a Christmas jazz playlist and that first glass of bubbles? The answer is no!

Canapes were oysters with a cucumber vinegarette, a smoked salmon dip and some lovely chilli & garlic zucchinis. The champagne was consumed with gusto!

It was then time to head inside and enjoy our dinner. We had a Maugers (best local butcher) glazed ham, some salmon, roast beef (Bearnaise and red wine jus) roast potatoes, some carrots, some peas and asparagus and feta and a green salad. It really was a sensational dinner. Truly YUM.

Look how happy I am carving and about to feed 19 people! Mr Munro always does thew ham perfectly for us too.

I had a moment before we ate when I stood back and pinched myself that all our dreams with the renovation has come true and here we were, doing it.

Look at what we have made happen in a year.

There was pudd for dessert, eggnog popsicles with a milk crumb (I think) and secret Santa as well as Frangelico and fresh lime and ice for all that I took no photos of all at all. But it was a great night. You can check out a reel I put on instagram here.

Lucy’s Dress was from Sheike, mine I got last year for a wedding but never wore from Bariano. The two piece black number with puffy sleeves is Rebecca Vallance as is the dress that Daisy has on.
