In an expletive-laden tirade, the rapper called out fans for discussing whether a reconciliation with her ex Offset has happened.
Cardi B has hit back at the rumours that spread across the internet over the holiday season about a possible reconciliation with her ex-partner, rapper Offset. The rumours started when a social media user allegedly saw the pair together in New York with media jumping at the opportunity for headlines about the pair being back together.
Cardi B confirmed that the pair had split in early December during an Instagram Live video and it seems that if it ain’t coming from Cardi, it ain’t a thing. And perhaps it’s fair… apparently there’s no such thing as simply catching up with an ex in the world of social media.
“Shut the f*ck up!” Cardi B’s post said. “Bout to delete my whole social media because y’all don’t shut the f*ck up. And it’s the same f*ckin’ dumb—my own f*ckin’ fan base. The last time I got dragged was because my f*ckin’ fan base. I don’t see nobody talking sh*t but my own f*ckin’ fan base.”
“Sh*t is f*cking annoying. For f*ckin’ three days, y’all been doing the same sh*t. Did I say I was back together with somebody? I say that? Did ya heard that? Did I say it? Did he say it? No!”
So it’s clear that there is no reconciliation between Cardi B and Offset, but where does the line get drawn between someone’s personal life and their public persona?
When announcing the split, Cardi clearly was struggling with how to manage her fan base which is a whopping 169 million followers on Instagram alone. Referring to rumours lashing social media about a now-denied dalliance between Offset and Christean Rock, Cardi B posted:
“I don’t know if you guys been getting clues from me from Lives or my Stories, when I put some certain music or find my unfollowings. When it comes for today’s events and stuff, I don’t know if it’s — I don’t think it’s true. I don’t care to find out because I have been single for a minute now. But I have been afraid to like — not afraid. I just don’t know how, like, to tell the world. But I feel like today has been like a sign. I wanna start 2024, like, fresh, open. I don't know. I'm curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah, I'm excited.”
In a social media world where Twitter and Instagram are the new celebrity magazines, artists often struggle with living their lives 24/7 in the public eye.
Cardi B and Offset released a song together in July as the lead single from Offset’s second studio album Set It Off. The video ironically begins with a voice saying “There’s a lot of drama between you and your beautiful wife, Cardi B” to which Offset replies “Let’s talk about some music”.
Indeed.
