Sequins, Star dust & Rouge
I couldn’t think of a more fitting venue to celebrate the 50th birthday of such a strong, charming woman than Brisbane’s Powerhouse. Dolled up in feathers and velvet and drenched in sublime mood lighting, this Brisbane icon has never looked so good.
Karen’s 50th Birthday party was old Hollywood Glamour / 1920s themed and as the Jazz Band began to play and the sun dipped down behind the city skyline, it was hard not to feel like we’d all been swept up in a Baz Luhrmann epic.
I don’t know if I’ve ever attended a party with guests more dedicated to the dress code & theme. It was an incredible effort on their part and an amazing sight to behold. There must have been at least 2 tonnes of sequins on that rooftop that night, with the sparkle surely visible from space.
But Karen was the real star of the evening, instantly likeable, a generous host who made time for every single one of her guests. It was no wonder so many people had come to honour and celebrate her.
Between the general revelry, an art deco inspired photobooth and a special appearance by the late Marilyn Monroe to sing Karen Happy Birthday, it was hard to imagine that the night had any more surprises in it. But I had underestimated Adrian, Karen’s husband, a quiet romantic who had organised the party. Leading Karen out onto the rooftop balcony for one final gift, the party paused and held its breath. As Adrian and Karen lent against the balcony, arm in arm to take in the view the sky blossomed with brilliant fireworks, raining stardust down from the heavens. It was SPECTACULAR. It is honestly one of the most romantic, grand gestures I have ever witnessed. Easily the most Gatsby thing I have seen at a Gatsby themed party Sir, I applaud you!
With the final booms of the fireworks echoing into the night it was time for me to leave though I have no doubt the party was only just getting started. What an incredibly special night for an incredible woman. Happy Birthday Karen!
