I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Ronald and Harvey’s combined 160th Birthday party last weekend at the Victoria Park Quartz room. Possibly the least interesting thing about these two extraordinary gentlemen is the fact that they were born on the same day and both share an identically handsome mug. Their rich and varied lives, beautiful and vast families, creased and lined faces are all brimming with unique tales and laughter.

Having just delivered a speech at my own brother’s wedding 3 days earlier, a standout moment of the day for me was listening to their own, younger brother’s toast. He was not afraid to stir the (crab) pot and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room (from laughing) by the end and I felt such a strong feeling of love in the room for one another and the undying bond of family and brotherhood. There is definitely much to be said of the shared pain of having a brother but it is best left for such occasions and with a glass of wine in hand.

People often say as a photographer I have the easiest job in the world; getting paid to go to parties. While I strongly disagree that its easy, it is however such an incredibly unique and blessed opportunity to witness and be a part of incredible celebrations of love, family and commitment. I hope I am lucky enough to have such a family and laughter around me in 44 years time when I turn 80.
