Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event filled with cherished moments and emotions, that you’ll want to remember forever. There is no better way to preserve these memories than through stunning photos. That’s why I am writing this blog to help you with choosing the right wedding photographer for you. With a million options out there, I’m here to help you through the process of finding the right photographer who will best bring your vision to life. These 8 tips for choosing the right wedding photographer will help you through that process.
1. Define your style: Picture-Perfect Matchmaking
The first thing to look at when you are looking for a photographer is their style. you want a style that aligns with your vision. Do you envision dreamy romantic shots? Or do you prefer more a more candid and documentary approach? Take some time to do some of your own research and explore different photography styles. Find the one that speaks to your heart!
2. Do your homework: Investigate like a pro
Before you swipe right on any photographer, do your homework. Check out their portfolios. Ask them to see a full wedding gallery not just a small snippet of a wedding day. Read reviews from previous couples, dive into their social media presence. This will give you a sense of their vision, professionalism, and their personality. Remember, stalking is fine when it comes to finding the perfect wedding photographer.
3. Do they make you feel comfortable : A photographer you can vibe with
Your wedding photographer is the person you spend more of your day with then your bridal party. So it’s important that you choose someone that you feel connected with and comfortable to be around. You need someone who can hype you up if you need it. Or someone who can help you deal with troubleshooting an issue. Meet them before you book, whether this be in person or on an online call. Doing this will help you know if you are gonna vibe with this person or not. Treat it like a blind date but with your photographer!

Don’t be afraid to ask your other suppliers, friends or family for any recommendations they might have. This doesn’t mean you have to book them because they have recommended them. BUT.. It might help on giving you a base on where to start in looking for what style you might want. Check out their testimonials. These should be present on their website as well as their google profile. It’s like getting the inside scoop from the wedding paparazzi!
5. Will it be them on the day: You’ve connected with this photographer
Always a question to ask is it going to be the person you’ve spoke to on the calls an emails photographing your wedding. Lately I have seen some stories with photographers taking 2-3 weddings on the same date. They then sub-contracting it out to another photographer. While this is ok! but you need to make sure that you are aware of this. As you booked that photographer for a reason. You did the vibe check, you did the homework on the style. So make sure thats the photographer you are going to get. Or if it’s another photographer make sure you ask for their past work for the photographer to make sure you’re getting the same quality.
6. See a full wedding gallery: Not just snippets
Every photographer will always showcase their work on social media or smaller galleries on their website. But generally they only show you the hero shots or the key moments from each wedding. Ask to see a full gallery of the one wedding. This way, you can gather an expectation of what you will have captured and what you will receive.
7. Put yourself in their photographs: Can you imagine it?
When you are having a look through your potential photographers galleries think about how you feel. Can you see yourself in their photos? Can you feel the connection and emotion in them? Do you like the poses they have been guided to do?

Lastly after all the 7 other tips… Go with your gut. Sometimes, the best decision making tool is your own intuition. As you are meeting potential photographer or chatting via email, pay attention to that gut feeling. Trust your instincts when it comes to gauging the chemistry and connection you feel with them. The photographer with the bees knees of a portfolio might not always be the right one. If something doesn’t feel right it’s ok to explore other options.
