Tesla’s dominance has been challenged in recent years as more automakers hop on the EV train. However, the American automaker still remains a major player in the automobile sector.

Tesla’s current model lineup is a mix of functionality, affordability and outright performance. They help keep the carmaker in step with, or, in some cases, ahead of its fiercest rivals.

Countless EV options now exist across the various automobile segments. However, the Tesla models showcased here still remain very popular with consumers.

Specifications

MSRP: $48,990 USD /  $66,522 CAD Engine: 1 permanent-magnet synchronous AC Motor and 1 AC Induction Motor Power / Torque: 384 hp /  376 lb-ft (combined) Drivetrain: AWD 0-60 mph: 4.4 seconds Fuel Economy: 127 MPGe (City) /  117 MPGe (Highway) Range: 330 miles (531 km) Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

In August, the Model Y beat out the competition to become the best-selling vehicle in the world, even edging out heavyweights like the Toyota Corolla. The Long Range variant maximizes driving range without compromising performance. The interior is also comfortably laid out without being fussy. An all-glass roof adds an airy ambiance, making the space seem larger than it really is.

Specifications

MSRP: starts at $89,990 USD /  $122,300 CAD Engine: 3 Permanent-magnet synchronous AC Motors Power / Torque: 1,020 hp /  1050 lb-ft (combined) Drivetrain: AWD 0-60 mph: 2.1 seconds Fuel Economy: 98 MPGe (City) /  96 MPGe (Highway) Range: 326 miles (525 km) Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The Plaid’s party trick is its mind-numbing straight-line acceleration. It’s the kind of performance that can embarrass many modern supercars out at the drag strip. Even better? The EV’s performance capabilities are packaged in a luxury sedan body style, making it even more practical as a regular family car.

Specifications

MSRP: starts at $45,990 USD /  $62,502 CAD Engine: Induction AC Motor (front), Permanent-magnet synchronous AC Motor (rear) Power / Torque: 449 hp / N/A (combined) Drivetrain: AWD 0-60 mph: 4.1 seconds Fuel Economy: 134 MPGe (City) /  126 MPGe (Highway) Range: 358 miles (576 km) Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The Model 3 is the entry point into the Tesla family, but there’s still a lot going for it. The small sedan boasts a class-leading range, plenty of interior space and affordable price points. The Model 3 is also a lot of fun to drive, especially if you opt for dual-motor variants like the Long Range and Performance models.

2023 Tesla Model S

Specifications

MSRP: starts at $74,990 USD /  $101,915 CAD Engine: Permanent-magnet synchronous AC Motor (front), Induction AC Motor (rear) Power / Torque: 670 hp / N/A (combined) Drivetrain: AWD 0-60 mph: 3.1 seconds Fuel Economy: 124 MPGe (City) /  115 MPGe (Highway) Range: 405 miles (652 km) Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

The entry-level Model S lacks the performance of the Plaid, but it’s still pretty quick for its size. The interior is beginning to look dated, but it still feels plush and comfortable. The yoke-steering compromises the driving experience. Thankfully, the regular wheel is available as a no-cost option.

Specifications

MSRP: starts at $79,990 USD /  $108,710 CAD Engine: 2 Asynchronous AC Motors Power / Torque: 670 hp / N/A (combined) Drivetrain: AWD 0-60 mph: 3.7 seconds Fuel Economy: 107 MPGe (City) /  97 MPGe (Highway) Range: 348 miles (560 km) Basic Warranty: 4 years /  50,000 miles (80,000 km)

Our Take

This Tesla might just be the answer if you are shopping for an EV ideal for a medium-to-large family. Only a few EVs are as large as the Model X. There’s tons of room onboard for passengers and luggage alike. If you are not too worried about the range, you can also hitch up a decent-sized family camper to your Model X.
