Due to a very rainy winter season here in Ireland, I found myself washing my car more regularly than ever this year. Every time it seemed that I was on top of keeping my car clean, it would be filthy again in a matter of hours.
As a result of this constant cleaning, I found myself using a huge amount of products quite quickly, and it was no surprise that it was the shampoo that was the hardest hit. Once I had finished the bottle of CarPro Reset I was using(one of my favourite car shampoos ever), I decided that it was time that I branch out again and try some new products.
When it came to shopping around and looking for something that I hadn’t tested before, I spotted a bottle of Garage Therapy One v2 Car Shampoo. I am familiar with Garage Therapy as a brand, but admittedly I have not tried a lot of their products, so I decided that this would be a good time to try out their shampoo. I also picked up a bottle of their tire dressing which i will also review in a separate post.
Let’s take a look!

Their purpose according to their website is as follows :

After reading through their mission and taking a look at the ingredients list on their website, I had no doubt that this was going to be a quality product, but there was only one way to find out for sure.

What Is the Difference Between Their V1 and V2 Shampoo?
Garage Therapy’s v2 shampoo is the updated version of their original One Car Shampoo. The main difference between the two products (as claimed) is the following
– 33% greater concentration.
– More robust cleaning power.
– More lubricity for a safer wash.
– More consistent performance in warmer and colder climates.
As I have never tried their previous version of the shampoo I can’t confirm or deny these claims, but let’s see how the v2 performed in my test.
Garage Therapy One v2 – How To Use
The instructions provided by GT were fairly straightforward as you would expect with most shampoos
1. Shake well Before use. dilute 20ml for a moderately dirty car in a 4-5 gallon bucket. use 30ml for a heavily soiled car for extra cleaning, suds and lubrication.
2. Pre-rinse the car to remove any loose dirt.
3. Wash the car with a mitt starting from the top, working down to ensure the dirtiest parts of the car are washed last.
4. Rinse thoroughly.
As I didn’t really consider my car to be “heavily” soiled at this time decided to go for the lower end and diluted roughly 15-20ml of the product in my wash bucket.
The first two things I noticed when doing this was that this product has an amazing scent. Not that it really matters when it comes to cleaning, but it was a nice touch (could easily be the best-smelling shampoo I have ever used)
The second thing was the amount of suds that the little amount of product generated. This stuff must be really concentrated. Again this doesn’t really mean anything in terms of cleaning power or performance, but I do prefer shampoos that have a generous amount of suds.
When it came to the “pre-rinse” stage, I didn’t do too much – only a very light stream from the garden hose as I wanted to test how good the product was at removing dirt and grime without any help from snow foam etc in the pre-rinse stage. As you can see my car wasn’t too filthy at the time, but it was covered in a noticeable layer of dirt and dust, which I was hoping that this product would have no problem removing on its own without the help of any other products.
As I worked my way around the car with my 2 buckets and Merino Wool wash mitt, I couldn’t believe how well the suds were holding up and the thickness of the lather compared to my previous shampoo Carpro Reset. One thing I did notice is that this product didn’t quite have the same amount of “slickness” compared to the Carpro alternative, however, this may be down to the fact that I only used a very small amount of the product in my wash bucket.
As I had hoped, this product was able to remove the dirt and grime from my car with relative ease, even in areas I had previously thought would need a bit of extra effort. The car was left feeling incredibly clean and smooth, with no signs of any residue or smears. This may have been helped by my drying aid Carpro Elixir, but either way, the shampoo did an impressive job for such a small amount of product used in the bucket.
Garage Therapy One v2 – Can It be used With Foam Cannon?
Yes – Garage Therapy One v2 can be used in a Foam Cannon. When using it with a foam cannon, It is recommended to dilute the product around 1:10 per litre of water for best results (depending on how much foam you require)
Garage Therapy One v2 – Will It Strip Wax/Coating?
No – Garage Therapy One v2 will not strip any waxes or coatings on your paintwork, it is safe to use as a maintenance wash for vehicles with existing protection.
Garage Therapy One v2 – Review And Final Thoughts
Overall, I was very impressed with Garage Therapy’s One V2 shampoo. It has a great scent and produces an incredible amount of suds even when diluted to low concentrations. The cleaning power is also fantastic, easily removing dirt and grime with minimal effort.
The price point of this shampoo is also spot on. I paid about 15 euros(About $16) for a 1L bottle of this shampoo , and given the concentration and the little amount needed to wash the car, this bottle should last me quite a while, even in rainy Ireland!
For those looking for a reliable and affordable car shampoo that won’t strip existing protection from your car, then Garage Therapy’s One V2 is definitely worth considering.
