Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of its most unique and ambitious offering, the Tata Curvv coupe SUV. As the test mule sightings of this SUV become more frequent, more information on this distinct SUV is unfolding every day. The latest reports on the Tata Curvv SUV have stated that the company will commence production in April of 2024. Additionally, the company is also aiming to sell around 48,000 units of this SUV every year.
Launch Timeline
According to Autocar India, Tata Motors will be launching the Curvv coupe SUV soon after its production commences in April 2024. As per the sources, the launch could take place between May and June of next year. Additionally, this newly developed SUV will share the production facility of Tata Motors at the Ranjangaon plant near Pune, Maharashtra.
Sales Aim for Tata Curvv
In addition to the launch timeline, new reports have also revealed the sales targets that Tata Motors is planning to achieve with the Curvv. The total sales target at the moment set by the company is to sell around 48,000 units in total. This tally includes all the drivetrain variants of the Curvv, including the ICE and EV models. The company is aiming to produce around 12,000 Curvv EVs, with the remaining units contributing from ICE models. Now whether the company manages to achieve these targets will only be known after its official launch.
Tata Curvv’s Positioning in the Lineup
Once the Tata Curvv is launched in India, it will be sitting between the Nexon sub-compact SUV and the Harrier mid-size SUV. It will be based on Nexon’s architecture but will come equipped with a unique coupe-style rear end, which we have not seen on any mass-produced car in India so far. Once launched, it will be competing against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and a number of other mid-size SUVs in India.
Tata Curvv Drivetrain Options
As mentioned above, the company is aiming to achieve the sales target of 48,000 with the help of different powertrain options that will be offered. First and foremost, the company will be offering the EV model, which will come equipped with the same EV drivetrain as the newly launched Nexon EV facelift. As per the sources, the new Curvv EV could be offered with two battery pack options, just like the Nexon EV facelift – the Medium range model and the long-range model. Currently, the Nexon EV MR uses a 30kWh battery, whereas the LR variant comes with a larger 40.5kWh battery.
In addition to the EV model, the company will also be offering the Curvv with ICE drivetrains. One of the most anticipated engines for the Curvv is the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol TGDi engine, which was showcased at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo earlier this year. This motor could produce around 170 bhp of power and around 280 Nm of torque. Apart from this, the company could also offer the diesel and outgoing petrol engines from the outgoing Nexon facelift in an attempt to lure in more buyers.
Additionally, there are reports that have suggested that the company could also be offering the Curvv coupe SUV with a CNG powertrain. Most likely, if this report is true, that car will be offered with the new twin-cylinder technology CNG kit from Tata Motors. However, it has not been confirmed.
