This Diablo SV Roadster was only built after a Milan dealership pleaded with the firm's CEO to build it

There are just two Lamborghini Diablo SV Roadsters in existence and one of them is currently up for sale courtesy of RM Sotheby’s. As far as V12-powered Lamborghinis, there are very few as desirable as this one.

The original Diablo SV Roadster came to life while Lamborghini was under the ownership of MegaTech and was created to appeal to U.S. buyers. It was conceived as a lighter, rear-wheel drive version of the Diablo VT Roadster and a Pearl Orange example premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998. Unfortunately, the project was canceled that same year when Lamborghini was sold to Audi.

Despite the project’s cancellation, a Lamborghini dealership in Milan convinced the marque’s then-CEO to build one final example. The marque agreed and that is the very car that is currently looking for a new home. Several Lamborghini dealerships around the world created their own Diablo SV Roadsters based around the VT droptop but there remain just two units produced by the factory itself.

This example has been driven 42,842 km (26,621 miles) since it was built and owned by four different collectors throughout Europe. It is being sold with the original owner’s manuals, warranty book, two tool rolls, and a Certificate of Origin from Lamborghini Polo Storico.

Found beneath the timeless bodywork of the car is a naturally-aspirated V12 good for 530 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque. The car is also equipped with a sports exhaust system, a front suspension lift system, carbon fiber intakes, and a carbon fiber rear wing.

While the interior is dated by modern standards, it still looks excellent thanks to the black Alcantara adorning the seats, dashboard, transmission tunnel, and center console.
