In a tragic incident on Mansa Sirsa Road, a collision occurred between a Hyundai Verna wedding car and a Thar vehicle on Sunday morning. The collision resulted in injuries to five people, including the bride and groom, who have been taken to the hospital for treatment. The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Also, an auto was also hit by the Thar in the accident, which also overturned.
Reports indicate that the wedding car was traveling from Sardulgarh towards Mansa when the high-speed Thar vehicle, coming from the Mansa side near Dolowal, collided with it. As a result, a married couple, three women, and a man in the wedding car sustained injuries. The collision caused the wedding car to sustain some heavy damages while the Thar also overturned and suffered significant damage. The first impact from the collision seem to happen to the front apron of the Verna. It is heavily damaged but the structural integrity of the vehicle kept the cabin intact.
This is not the latest Hyundai Verna, which achieved the five-star safety rating recently. This is the older-generation of the sedan, which was not tested by Global NCAP.
Gurpreet Singh, the Sarpanch of Dulowal village, described the accident as horrific, with both vehicles being completely destroyed and the occupants of the wedding car being injured. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. The injured individuals have been admitted to Mansa Civil Hospital for medical care. The local police from Court Dharma police station have also reached the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
SUVs tend to overturn
Some time ago, there was an incident where a Tata Nano caused a Mahindra Thar to overturn after a collision. Many people were surprised that a car with zero-star safety rating could flip over a top-rated Mahindra Thar. However, it all comes down to the stability of the vehicle. Despite their popularity around the world, SUVs were initially designed to be slow and sturdy, capable of taking on challenging terrains. Unfortunately, most people who purchase SUVs these days don’t venture off-road, which has led to the rise of 4×2 SUVs that aren’t considered true SUVs.
The design of SUVs, with their higher ground clearance, makes them more prone to tipping over when compared to hatchbacks or sedans. Therefore, it is important to be extra cautious when driving SUVs at high speeds. The increased ground clearance shifts the vehicle’s center of gravity, making it more unstable. As a result, driving an SUV at high speeds around corners can be nerve-wracking, whereas it feels more secure in a low-profile car like a sedan.
This increased risk of tipping over is due to the higher ground clearance of SUVs. Thus, it is crucial for drivers, particularly those transitioning from sedans, to be vigilant and exercise greater care while driving SUVs.
