Recently, in their attempt to raise awareness for road safety, the Bengaluru traffic police are experimenting with a unique initiative. Under this initiative, to keep drivers accountable for their actions, the traffic police will be notifying companies about their employees’ traffic violations.
What is this new initiative?
This new program, which commenced about 15 days ago, will specifically target IT company staff who are found violating traffic rules, such as riding two-wheelers on the wrong side of the road. Bengaluru traffic police will apprehend the violator by checking their identification card to get information about their employing company. Following this, the traffic department will then compile a detailed list of violations attributed to each company.
Next up, to ensure transparency and prompt communication, the traffic department will send the list of violations to the concerned companies. In this way, the traffic police authorities will not be handing out traditional spot fines. Instead, they will be issuing online challans for the reported violations.
As part of this initiative, the Bengaluru traffic department will actively collect data on the number of private vehicles entering tech parks along Bengaluru’s information technology corridor. This data collection, according to the police department, will be crucial for effective traffic management. This data will also allow authorities to make informed decisions and relieve congestion.
Awareness recommendations
In addition to the above-mentioned practice, the Bengaluru traffic police department also stated that rather than disclosing personal information, companies should take proactive measures. They have suggested that companies should organize awareness sessions on road safety and traffic rules. This will encourage dialogue between employers and employees. Additionally, they have suggested inviting the police for dedicated sessions on traffic rules to reinforce the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
