The Genesis GV70 is getting a mid-life update, with subtle exterior updates but potentially more substantial ones inside.

Genesis’ best-selling model in Australia, the GV70, is set to get a mid-life update in 2024 that will bring visual changes in line with recent updates to the G80 and GV80.

The video captured by Shorts Car on YouTube shows the SUV wearing heavy camouflage.

While a date has yet to be set for its reveal, Shorts Car suggests it’s expected in the second quarter of 2024, which would point to an Australian launch either late in 2024 or early in 2025.

From what we can see, the headlights have adopted a new design. It carries on Genesis’ distinct split headlight design and appears to feature the multi-cube LED elements from the G90 and GV80, potentially using the brand’s Micro Lens Array technology.

The front grille appears larger, with a dark chrome finish for a sportier look, while there’s what appears to be a restyled front bumper with larger air intakes boasting a similar ‘G-matrix’ pattern to the grille.

There are new wheel designs, while Shorts Car says each powertrain will have different-coloured brake calipers: the 2.5T’s will reportedly be bronze, the diesel’s silver, and the 3.5T’s red.

At the rear, the tail lights appear to retain their shape and design however there are changes to the shape of the exhaust outlets.

The dashboard of this prototype is shrouded, but the updated GV70 will reportedly adopt the 27-inch OLED display from the updated G80 and GV80.

Minor interior changes include memory functionality for the front passenger seats and updated second-row climate controls.

The centre tunnel looks to receive chrome-like finishes that start from the centre console and continue to the dashboard, similar to the GV80.

The Electrified GV70 was also spied recently by HealerTV on YouTube. It features similar headlights to the combustion-powered prototype mentioned above but appears to have blue LEDs on the lower strip.

It also appears to feature a refreshed front and rear bumper and new wheels.

Korean Car Blog expects there will be no changes to its electric powertrain but it perhaps might feature some “fine-tuning”, like adding a higher density battery pack to increate electric range.

Further, the outlet reports Genesis may discontinue the GV70’s diesel as it has in the GV80. Genesis Australia has already dropped the diesel from the local range.

Locally the GV70 has the choice of two petrol engines: a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder, producing 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque and available with either rear- or all-wheel drive, and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 producing 279kW and 530Nm that’s available only with all-wheel drive.

All GV70 models use an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Combustion-powered GV70

The Genesis Electrified GV70 features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain, with each motor producing 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque. All up, there’s 360kW of power (in Boost Mode) and 700Nm of torque.

The GV70 is the brand’s best-selling vehicle in Australia. Between January and November 2023, Genesis sold 1122 examples of its GV70 including the Electrified GV70. It outsold all of Genesis’ other models combined during the same period.

While it has yet to reach the heights of segment stalwarts from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus, the GV70 has comfortably outsold the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (155 sales) and recently introduced Maserati Grecale (465), while also outpacing the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque combined (548 sales).
