Honda Acty Crawler Is Your Antidote To Monstrous 6×6 Truck Conversions

11 months ago 26

The kei truck has six wheels and slip-on tracks, allowing it to drive on slippery surfaces

If the recent craze of monstrous 6×6 conversions has left you underwhelmed but you still need an off-road capable six-wheeler, we might have a solution. This 1994 Honda Acty Crawler 6×6 is one of the rarest kei truck imports from Japan, combining the lightness of the original with an extra pair of wheels and a slip-on track system.

It’s hard to beat the cool factor of a kei truck, let alone one coming with three axles and factory-fit tracks. As weird as it seems, Honda offered a 6×6 option for the Acty between 1994 and 1999, although no one knows how many were built. Some sources claim they were less than 500 while others suggest as little as 20 units. In any case, chances are you won’t come across another Acty Crawler 6×6 on US roads – besides the cool fire truck that went under the hammer earlier this year.

The highlight of this tiny cab-over truck is the dual axles at the back and the slip-on tracks which were designed for the snowy mountains of Japan.

Despite the additional axle, the “Crawler 6×6” didn’t have any performance modifications compared to the standard Acty. This means it is powered by the tiny naturally-aspirated 656 cc three-cylinder engine that produces a laughable 38 hp (28 kW / 38 PS) and 54 Nm (40 lb-ft) of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox sends all that power to four of the six wheels with the help of a rear differential locker. In other words, the little Honda is a 4×6 rather than a proper 6×6, although the slip-on tracks do make it all-wheel-drive.

According to the listing on Northeast Auto Imports, this particular example has been driven 65,700 miles (106,000 km) since 1994, but appears to be in very good condition thanks to “tons of recent service”. The two-seater cabin has a few rough spots but the spartan dashboard and center console look charming, as with the inclined steering wheel.

With an asking price of $26,500, the Honda Acty Crawler 6×6 might be one of the most expensive kei trucks on sale at the moment, but we hope it finds a loving home and a caring owner.
