Volvo has issued a recall for about 3,000 XC90 SUVs from model years 2015 through 2024 because their second-row seatbelts may not function properly.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the screws attaching both the buckle and the lower belt anchor “may not have been torqued to the correct specification.” Many may be installed properly. But a supplier tells Volvo that one of its production lines lacked a device that measures torque.
If any screws are improperly installed, they could come loose in a crash.
Volvo says it knows of no injuries or accidents related to the problem, which was discovered at the factory.
Dealers will inspect the screws and, if necessary, tighten them to the proper specification. Recall repairs are always free.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. They try to contact every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, but they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
