Kia is all set to kick off deliveries of the facelifted Sonet by mid-January 2024. After its recent debut, the automaker is slated to open bookings for the Sonet facelift from December 20, with prices expected to be disclosed early next month. The series production of the updated Sonet has already commenced at Kia’s Anantapur plant, and sources indicate that waiting periods are anticipated to be no more than a month.

For those eager to receive their Sonet facelift at an accelerated pace, Kia is offering a special initiative called the Kia K-code. To benefit from this, customers can connect with an existing Kia owner who can generate the K-code from Kia India’s website or the MyKia app between December 14-20. The K-code, obtained through these means, can then be utilized during the booking process to secure a priority delivery slot. It’s worth noting that the K-code is exclusively applicable to bookings made through the website on December 20, specifically between midnight and 11.59 pm.

In terms of powertrain options, the Sonet facelift maintains its three-engine lineup, featuring an 83hp, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 120hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, and a 116hp, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. The turbo-petrol and diesel variants are equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch and 6-speed torque converter automatic, respectively. Furthermore, the diesel variant reintroduces a 6-speed manual option. Kia has done away with the iMT (semi automatic transmission) only approach with the Sonet Diesel, giving more choice to the customer.

The available trim lines include Tech Line, GT Line, and X-Line, with various trims such as HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX, and X-Line. The distribution of engine options across trim lines varies, with the 1.2-litre petrol limited to Tech Line trims, while the 1.0-turbo-petrol and 1.5-diesel engines spanning across all three lines. Automatic transmissions for the latter two engines are restricted to the top-tier HTX+, GTX, and X-Line trims.

As for the expected pricing of the Sonet facelift, considering the substantial feature upgrades, it is anticipated to come with a slightly higher price tag compared to its predecessor. In the competitive landscape, the facelifted Kia Sonet will vie with rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and other sub-4 meter compact SUVs. The Sonet has been a top selling sub-4 meter compact SUV in India, and the launch of the updated model is expected to help the vehicle continue its strong performance.
