The man and woman survived but both broke their legs in the crash and were taken to hospital

An innocent couple enjoying ice cream at a store in Sao Paolo, Brazil, have been left with serious injuries after a car crashed through the entrance and slammed into them before the driver abruptly fled the scene.
Shocking security camera footage from inside the store shows the small hatchback slamming directly into the couple while they were sitting at a table. The force of the impact threw the man to the ground while the woman was briefly pinned between the car and the shop’s front counter.

Local media reports that the 51-year-old man who was hit had both of his legs broken in the impact and suffered from a number of lacerations. His partner, a 50-year-old woman, also had her legs broken and suffered severe trauma to the abdomen and was placed in the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital. The man was also treated in hospital before being discharged.

The driver of the small hatchback can be seen briefly getting out of the car and speaking with the victims. He then gets back in, reverses out of the shop, and flees the scene. Fortunately, the worker at the store quickly wrote down his license plate.
Globo reports that the local military police attended the scene and the following day, received an anonymous complaint that the man’s vehicle had been found parked in Sao Paolo’s Ponte Alta neighborhood. Authorities then tracked down the driver of the car and brought him to a local station where he admitted to drinking alcohol just before the crash. Additionally, he said he had also “taken medicine” hours before the incident.
The driver has been charged with causing bodily injury, failing to help, and fleeing from the crash site.
