While based around the original Amarok first introduced in 2010, the new VW truck will be updated with modern interior tech
An intriguing photo of the VW Amarok has surfaced from South America, but it’s not of the second-generation model introduced last year. Instead, this is a facelifted version of the original pickup that’s slated to be produced exclusively in South America.
The new Amarok that the rest of the world gets shares its underpinnings with the current Ford Ranger. However, Volkswagen has decided that instead of introducing this new model in South America, it will refresh the first-gen model.
This image of the updated truck was shared online by Motor1 Argentina and is believed to have been taken at VW’s plant in Pacheco, Argentina, where the new model will be manufactured. Alternatively, it might have been captured somewhere in Brazil, where VW is known to be conducting tests on the modified truck.

The first-generation VW Amarok (top) debuted in 2010 while the second-gen model (below) was introduced in 2022While it’s merely a facelift, the styling updates introduced by the German carmaker bring a significant modernization to the front of the Amarok. Notably, the designers have created new headlights and fitted a new grille and bumper. It is also reported that high-end models will also have LEDs incorporated into the grille.
No images of the vehicle’s sides or rear have been shared online just yet, but the alterations made to these areas will reportedly be less significant than those up front. Among the tweaks that are expected include new wheels and different taillights.
A variety of interior updates are said to be included in the model. These are expected to encompass a fancy new digital instrument cluster, a modern infotainment screen featuring the latest ‘VW Play’ system, refreshed upholstery, and several safety enhancements such as additional airbags, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
The available powertrain options for the mid-size pickup are expected to remain unchanged, offering South American customers a choice between a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder with 138 hp (140 PS) and 178 hp (180 PS) versions, as well as a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 producing 255 hp (258 PS). The four-cylinder models will provide options for rear-wheel drive or 4Motion AWD, along with a choice between a six-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the V6 variant will be exclusively paired with 4Motion and the 8-speed automatic gearbox.
