The trademarked names include Sportstar, Terraster, Trailstar, and Travelstar

We know that VW’s new Scout Motors brand is readying both an electric truck and an electric SUV but, at this stage, no one outside of the company knows the names of the two models. However, several trademark applications recently made by the brand provide us with a hint of what they may be called, as well as the names of possible different variants and trim levels.

Throughout 2023, Scout filed 50 trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, consisting of vehicle names as well as slogans. Among these are names used by International Harvester when it built the original Scout between 1961 and 1980 and include Scout 80, Scout 800, Scout II, Terra, Traveler, and Super Scout.

InsideEVs reports the company has also filed to trademark the names of various special-edition models created between International Harvester and Custom Vehicles Incorporated. These include Sportstar, Terrastar, Trailstar, and Travelstar.

Other names trademarked by Scout Motors this year include Aristocraft, Baler, Forma, Harrow, Rallye, Scout Spirit, Scythe, Sno-Star, SR-2, SSII, Swather, Tellus, Terra, and Tresher.

Of course, Scout couldn’t possibly be working on different variations of its SUV and pickup models that will be available with all of these different names and most of them will probably never actually be used. Nevertheless, we like that the firm’s nomenclature is shaping up to feature actual words/names rather than boring letter and number combinations that seem quite commonplace nowadays.

Scout Motors will build its pickup and SUV at a new manufacturing plant outside Columbia, South Carolina which is set to cost $2 billion and will employ up to 4,000 workers. Production of the two vehicles should begin before the end of 2026.
