With over 700,000 units sold in 2023, the Ford F-Series continues to dominate the American landscape

There are still a few days left in 2023, but Ford is celebrating early as they’ve announced the F-Series was the best-selling truck in the United States for the 47th consecutive year. On top of that, the F-Series was the best-selling vehicle in America for the 42nd year in a row.

While those results are based on projections, Ford’s director of U.S. sales, Robert Kaffl, said more than 700,000 customers bought an F-Series this year. However, the picture isn’t as rosy as it initially appears.

We’ll get the final numbers soon enough, but Ford sold 573,370 F-Series pickups in the first three quarters of this year. That easily beat Ram’s 332,440 units, but the automaker trailed GM by a significant margin. In particular, their rival delivered 411,758 Chevrolet Silverados and 216,227 GMC Sierras. That adds up to 627,985 units, which makes Ford’s total look far less impressive.

That being said, Kaffl credited the F-Series’ success to the “diversity of our powertrain offerings” as customers have “unique needs, whether they’re on the job site, the farm, or embarking on a weekend adventure.” He then touted the fact that the F-150 was the best-selling full-size full-hybrid pickup in America as well as the best-selling full-size electric pickup.

Speaking of the latter, Kaffl called the F-150 Lightning a “shining example of our dedication to a more sustainable future without compromising on power and performance.” That being said, reports have suggested the company has cut production in half due to slowing demand.

On the bright side, the facelifted F-150 will go into production early next year. It features a host of changes including a newly standard 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine and a newly available Pro Access Tailgate, which effectively turns the bed into a walk-in bathtub.
