In an attempt to defeat the long-standing Airbus-Boeing duopoly, the Chinese government has put all of its industrial might behind the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). The company's first major project, the first airliner intended to enter the market and compete directly with Boeing and Airbus's jets is the C919, a short-haul airliner very comparable in size, range, and performance to the Boeing 737 or the Airbus A320.
