SAN FRANCISCO- Starlux Airlines (JX), a Taiwan-based startup carrier, successfully conducted its inaugural commercial flight from Taoyuan (TPE), Taiwan, to San Francisco (SFO) on December 16, 2023.
This new route provides an additional travel option for passengers between North America and Asia, complementing the existing Los Angeles (LAX) route.

Starlux San Francisco Flight
In a statement released on Sunday, CEO Chai Chien-hua emphasized that the San Francisco flight, the airline’s second destination in the United States, is specifically designed to cater to passengers traveling between major cities in North America and Asia.
The airline has ambitious plans for expanding its service network, with the launch of flights to Chiang Mai, Thailand, scheduled for January 18, 2024.
Additionally, in the second quarter of the upcoming year, Starlux Airlines intends to commence flights from the central Taiwanese city of Taichung, further diversifying its offerings.
In the latter part of 2024, there are also intentions to initiate a new trans-Pacific route to Seattle, mentioned Chai.
Starlux reported that the inaugural flight to San Francisco on Saturday accommodated a total of 274 passengers, accompanied by beloved comic characters such as “SNOOPY” and Charlie Brown, who were dressed as cabin crew.
As a special gift, passengers were presented with a luggage tag featuring the comic characters.

Flight Schedule
Operating on the Airbus A350, the route is scheduled to depart from Taoyuan every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
The arrival in San Francisco is expected at 6:15 p.m. (local time) on the same day, with a flight duration of approximately 11 hours. It’s noteworthy that Taiwan is 15 hours ahead of San Francisco.
Commencing on March 20 next year, the service is set to operate on a daily basis, as per the announcement.
The Airbus A350, as specified by the carrier, features a total of 306 seats, distributed as follows: four in first class, 26 in business class, 36 in premium economy, and 240 in economy.
