An American Airlines Boeing 787 bound originally for Miami was struck by lightning in Buenos Aires, prompting an emergency landing back to the Argentinian airport.

American Airlines flight AA908 is a routine scheduled flight between Buenos Aires and Miami, with the affected rotation being operated by N808AN.
As per Planespotters.net, N808AN is a 8.4 year old Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline back in August 2015.
Of the 787-8 variant, the U.S carrier has 37 of them, of which 35 are in active service and two are currently parked, offering an average fleet age of 5.6 years.
American Airlines flight AA908 departed Buenos Aires Ezeiza at 2334 local time on Christmas Eve and proceeded northbound in the direction of Miami.
Not long into it’s climb to cruise, the aircraft was struck by lightning, forcing a quick u-turn back to the Argentinian airport, as the nature of the damage was unclear.
Upon it’s arrival back into Buenos Aires Ezeiza, the Miami-bound flight was met by emergency crews on arrival as a precaution in case any fire or damage required action.
At the current time of writing (26/12/23 @ 1400 UK time), N808AN has been on the ground since this incident, with no indication into when the aircraft will be allowed back in the air again.
It is scheduled to operate a flight between Miami and Los Angeles again tomorrow, but the aircraft has not yet departed Ezeiza.
