In recent months, the Delta-LATAM Joint Venture has announced exciting expansions in its services between the United States and Rio de Janeiro, South America, including new routes and enhanced frequencies.

The new flights operated by Delta Air Lines from Rio de Janeiro arrived in Atlanta and New York December 17, both associated with the Joint Venture Agreement with LATAM.

Expanded Services

Departing from Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG) at 9:15 a.m., it lands at Delta’s main hub at 5:15 p.m. local time.

Simultaneously, flight DL244 departs Rio for New York-JFK at 10:15 a.m., arriving in the U.S. city at 6:30 p.m. local time.

The focus on Rio as a gateway for international tourists and the collaboration with LATAM underscore Delta’s dedication to providing optimal travel experiences.

Barbizan highlights the advantage of morning departures from Rio, facilitating connections for travelers from various parts of Brazil.

The ‘Marvelous City’

Delta’s enthusiasm for resuming flights to the “Marvelous City” is grounded in its impressive track record. In the three years preceding the pandemic, the airline transported over half a million passengers between the United States and Rio de Janeiro.

These new routes further solidify Delta’s commitment to the Top 5 long-haul South American destinations, showcasing the airline’s dedication to the region.

Aline Mafra, Director of Sales and Marketing at LATAM Brasil, emphasizes the significance of the Joint Venture in providing customers with streamlined and efficient travel options.

The enhanced routes also align with LATAM’s commitment to expanding air transport accessibility in Brazil, fostering connections between Rio de Janeiro and the global stage.

Celebrating the Launch

To commemorate the launch of these flights, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at Rio de Janeiro International Airport.

The event, attended by Delta and LATAM employees and crew members, symbolized the strength of this leading partnership in connecting North and South America.

Rafael Sampaio, Traffic Development Manager at RIO Galeão, emphasizes the positive impact of Delta’s return to Rio de Janeiro.

The coordination among the city’s airports, particularly through GIG, enhances connectivity, benefiting both passengers and the city’s economy.

Rio stands to gain increased tourist flow from North America and new business opportunities, bringing the Marvelous City even closer to the United States.
