United Airlines flight UA921 is a routine scheduled flight between London Heathrow and New York Newark, with the affected rotation being operated by N653UA.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N653UA is a 31.2 year old Boeing 767-300 painted in the special Star Alliance livery.
The aircraft was delivered to the airline in October 1992. Of the 767-300 variant, the U.S-based carrier has 37 of them in the fleet, of which 33 are in active service and four are parked.
Of the particular variant again, the average fleet age is 27.9 years.
United Airlines flight UA921 departed London Heathrow at 1817 local time tonight and proceeded westbound in the direction of New York Newark.
Upon the middle between the UK and Ireland, the crew onboard N653UA proceeded to enter a series of holds to burn fuel.
From there, UA921 then proceeded eastbound back to Heathrow, where the aircraft landed safely at 2046 local time.
As per @FlightEmergency on X, it is understood the cause of this return to London Heathrow was due to an electronics failure onboard, more specifically to do with it’s left hand generator.
N653UA, which was originally supposed to continue onwards to New York Newark has been grounded since this incident, with no indication into when the aircraft will be able to enter commercial service again.
