AYODHYA- On Saturday, December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport (AYJ) in Ayodhya.
This inauguration precedes the significant ‘pran pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) of the Lord Ram idol at the ongoing construction site of the Ram temple, scheduled for January 22.

Situated 15 kilometers away from the central Ayodhya city, the first phase of the airport has been constructed at an expense exceeding Rs 1,450 crore, as reported by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The airport in Ayodhya is set to be named ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham,’ and an official has indicated that a notification to this effect is likely to be issued soon, as reported by news agency PTI.
Spanning a total area of 6,500 sqm, the airport’s terminal building is designed to accommodate approximately 10 lakh passengers annually.
Emulating the architectural style of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir of Ayodhya, the terminal building and the main gateway feature concrete cores with sandstone cladding adorned with stylized carvings.
Upon entering, passengers will encounter interiors adorned with local art, paintings, and murals portraying the life of Lord Ram.
Incorporating modern infrastructure, the airport boasts various sustainability features such as an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, and a solar power plant, aiming to achieve GRIHA – 5-star ratings.

“This state-of-the-art airport, adorned with themes from the epic Ramayana, will elevate the development of pilgrimage and tourism in the entire region to new heights.”

The program includes the inauguration of Amrit Bharat trains and Vande Bharat trains, along with various other development projects valued at over Rs 15,700 crore.
IndiGo First Flight to Ayodhya
Following the inauguration of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, the inaugural flight from Delhi (DEL) to the Ayodhya airport took off.
A video shared by news agency ANI featured IndiGo (6E) pilot Captain Ashutosh Shekhar welcoming passengers on board the Ayodhya-bound flight.
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to command a flight of such significance, concluding with passengers chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram.’
Visuals also captured passengers chanting “Jai Shri Ram” before boarding the first flight to the Ayodhya airport.
