I know I’m no different than any other person in this planet when it comes to the country they live in or hail from. India has always amazed me in every way , be it it’s people , it’s culture, it’s history ,it’s varied landscape and lifestyles, scientific and educational explorations from 1000s of years back , health guidelines with in -depth understanding and treatments that stand true in an era where there was no Imaging techniques or laboratory evaluations.
It’s fables, the wondrous Panchatantra, the financial guidelines of Chanakya Niti, the political guidelines of Arthasastra. The quotient of equality from tatvamasi, the consideration of health of not only humans but animals too in Atharvaveda. The respect to the belief of all nastik and astik( the atheist and theist). The guidelines on logical reasonings with debates ,tarkasangraha and it’s variety the least favoured nigrahaneeya tarka (debate to just kill the opponents point ; the most favoured and sadly most promoted debate kind nowadays) and we can go on and on.
It’s not all that white, there are quite many shades of black and grey in India’s history and culture traditions .But isn’t that expected ,because since it stems from a man and not from the lo! Lord Almighty ?
So today on her 75th birthday of the so-called Independence Day, as you sway the flag and sing the national anthem, close your eyes to feel grateful to be born an Indian and be humbled that you and me have a lot more to learn from those rustic pages of history than we think we know from those fresh pages of the newspaper and the internet.
I pray let this feeling of patriotism not be a moment but a never ending venture to understand, explore with an open mind and love India for who, what she is and has to say.
