This time of year many of us celebrate the birth of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah). December is an unlikely time for His actual birth, but regardless of calendar accuracy there’s something beautiful about gathering together in the darkness of winter and celebrating His arrival with shimmering lights. The sparkling lights of the Hanukkah candles or Christmas bulbs reminds us of Yeshua being the light of the world, like a beautiful star in the cold winter sky. As a newborn infant Yeshua came in desperate need of helpful and loving parents. He relied on other humans to raise Him up, feed and protect Him, nurture and support Him. That’s a very humbling experience for one in perfect alignment with YHWH, God of the Universe.

Yeshua was so much more than a human. He was inexplicably at one with God His Father… fully God and fully human… and He had attributes of human-divinity that were described centuries before His birth:

Isaiah 9:6

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor [yoh’ets ???????], Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

This Messiah (Anointed One), who would come as a child, would be an awe-inspiring, mighty, eternal, peace-bringer. And He would be a counsellor… an intimate advisor for every human heart.

There is a beauty to that word: counsellor. A confidant. A friend. An advisor for life. That is what Yeshua wants to be, for everyone. We all need someone we can wholly rely on. Someone to tell our deepest secrets. Someone to share our heartache and someone to celebrate our victories. It’s good to have friends, family, and therapists to support us along the journey of our lives, but Yeshua wants to hear it all too. He came to be your Counsellor and Advisor. Let Him in. There is no cost and He’s worth your time!
