I love to share delicious recipes that are also quick and easy.  I mean, we’re all leading busy lives, right?  And finding time to spend in the kitchen can be very challenging.

This recipe for Dump Cake fits those requirements perfectly: quick, easy, and delicious!

Dump Cake Ingredients:

1 box yellow cake mix 2 sticks butter or margarine 1 can crushed pineapple 1 can cherry pie filling 1 cup chopped pecans

How to make it:

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Spread the pineapple (undrained) in the bottom of a 13 x 9 ungreased dish

spread the cherry pie filling over the top of the pineapple

Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the top of the cherry pie filling

Sprinkle pecans over cake mix

Cut the butter into pats and place over the top

Bake for 1 hour

Enjoy! I like to eat mine with a little whipped cream on top.

Fun facts about the cherry:

Cherries belong to the rose family. At one time, serving cherries on ice cream in Kansas was against the law. A typical cherry tree produces 7000 cherries. The world record for cherry-pit spitting is 93 feet set by Brian Krause in 2004. The story we often heard when we were young about George Washington chopping down a cherry tree and when he was confronted stated: “I cannot tell a lie”…. Not true.

Fun facts about the pineapple:

You can plant pineapple leaves to grow a new plant. Pineapples contain the bromelain enzyme which breaks down proteins, so you can use them to tenderize meat.  That enzyme might also help arthritis pain! One pineapple plant produces one pineapple at a time. Pineapples take about 18-20 months to become ready to harvest. Pineapple is the only edible fruit of its kind, the Bromeliads.
