it may not always seem like it but, competing is not something I feel excited to do.
The first time I competed (less than 3 mos into training) I don’t even remember the match. It was like I had just blacked out and fought. Somehow I actually won.
? I was terrified, hands shaking, butterflies, several sleepless nights leading up to it. But, the feeling afterward!! Unexplainable! I had conquered one of my biggest fears!
After 7 years, this feeling has lessened but, it’s still in there. I still get the upset stomach, butterflies etc...but, I have learned how to handle them better.
My competitin record is pretty good but, certainly not perfect! Of course we all go in to competition with the goal to win but, what I have learned though my experience is what competing does for me as an athlete, teammate, instructor; I eat better, I work harder, I push myself and my teammates, I can teach others as an experienced competitor and I am a stronger, more confident and better human being.
?
If you don’t think you want to compete, think about it again! I truly feel competing IS for everyone, at least once! Win or lose, challenge yourself, step out of your comfort zone. You will find out more about yourself than you ever thought possible.
If you want something you’ve never had, than you have to do something you’ve never done!
Get uncomfotable!
