What is a Green Tea Shot

The classic Green Tea Shot (also known as a "Jameson Green Tea") is a popular Irish whiskey and peach schnapps shooter. It has a beautiful balance of sweet and sour that is deliciously refreshing.

Despite its name, the Green Tea Shooter doesn't contain any actual tea in it. Instead, the name comes from its green hue because when it is all mixed, this shot looks similar to chilled green tea.

But it definitely doesn't taste anything like green tea! This shot recipe is sweet and tangy and tastes like a sweet-sour whiskey drink with a fruity peach twist.

In fact, you can even double the recipe quantities and serve it in a rocks glass over ice as a whiskey cocktail to sip on.

However you decide to serve them up, these Green Tea Shots are always a hit. Especially during the summertime as they are super refreshing and bright.

What is in a Green Tea Shot

A Green Tea Shot is a simple shooter recipe that requires four standard bar ingredients. It's a delicious mix of Irish whiskey, peach schnapps, and sour mix that's topped with a splash of lemon-lime soda.

The exact ingredients you will need to make a Green Tea Shot are listed below, or you can find a full detailed recipe at the end of this post.

Irish whiskey. Traditionally this shot is made with Jameson Irish Whiskey as they are the original creators - but any Irish whiskey will do! Irish whiskey is different from American whiskey in that it is made with barley, whereas American whiskey is made of corn, rye, or wheat. Due to this difference, it has a lighter and less sweet flavor than American whiskey. Sour mix. We recommend making your own homemade sweet-and-sour mix rather than using a store-bought version to make this shot. It is so quick and easy to make yourself and the fresh citrus juices really make the drink pop. If you are looking for a recipe, we have a HOMEMADE SOUR MIX recipe that is easy and tasty! Peach schnapps.  Peach schnapps is a sweetened clear, grain spirit with peach flavoring. You can use any peach schnapps or peach liqueur that you like best to make this drink. Lemon-lime soda. Use any kind you like best, such as Sprite or 7-UP. You could also use a good-quality sparkling lemonade if preferred. The lemon-lime soda dilutes some of the intensity of the drink and adds a bit of sweetness and introduces some carbonation to make a rounder and more balanced drink.

Cocktail Variation

If you'd prefer to sip on a cocktail rather than quickly down a shot, you can easily turn this shooter recipe into a cocktail. Simply shake the whiskey, peach schnapps, and sour mix together until very cold in a cocktail shaker.

Then strain it into a rocks glass filled with ice rather than pouring it into a shot glass. Top it off with as much lemon-lime soda as you like and you will have a delicious cocktail to sip on.

Recipe Tips and Notes

This shot recipe mixes up to about 16 percent ABV (32 proof) when made with 80-proof whiskey. It will be stronger with a higher-proof schnapps or whiskey. Therefore, one round is similar to drinking a full glass of wine so please drink responsibly. Use a cocktail jigger to measure out all your ingredients when making this cocktail. This will help to ensure consistency and that the flavors are perfectly balanced. You can easily increase the number of servings of this drink by simply multiplying the recipe by the number of servings you require.
