Let’s talk about the different types of cakes that can be used for weddings, birthdays, Christmas and many other special occasions or can be used for just a snack for different people around the world. Cakes can be classified in different forms like diet (whether vegan or nonvegan), the method of preparation even down to the ingredients used in the preparation. We have been able to compile a list that suits a lot of scenarios no matter the form of classification used. May I meant that this a not an all-out list but then quite informative. So all ye cake lovers, let’s get to the list already.
Pound cake: As the name suggests, a pound of the major ingredients( had to specify major) like flour and sugar would in baking the cake. Because of this, the cake doesn’t rise and is very lush.
Sponge cake: This cake is usually soft and spongy. This is because no baking powder or baking soda is usually added to it rather whipped eggs are used.
Red velvet cake: This cake is known for its distinctively red colour which is classically a reaction between buttermilk and cocoa powder but recently, red color is used instead.
Butter cake: This is one of the most popular cakes. Here, the first step involves creaming butter and sugar together. This cake is usually used for birthday celebrations but then, there should be no restrictions, you can use whatever you want to on your birthday.
Genoise cake: Here, the eggs are so beaten that they become thick and mousse-like, making them a very soft kind of spongecakes. This cake is an Italy or France version of sponge cake.
Chiffon cake: This cake is somewhat between a sponge cake and an oil cake which makes it have features like being light like a sponge cake yet rich like an oil cake.
Fruit cake: These cakes have dried fruits or nuts incorporated into them giving them their own uniqueness in the cake world.
Flourless cake: They could be baked or unbaked. They are dense fudgy cakes that usually have high-fat content.
Carrot cake: As the name implies, the carrot is added to the batter of the cake. This cake is usually baked with oil not butter.
Angel food cake: This cake is baked with only egg white and no yolk. It is similar to the sponge cake. Specific precautions need to be followed while baking this cake, like not removing the cake from the pan while it’s hot or it would collapse. No butter is used in baking this cake so it does not have fat making it a very healthy cake.
