Alison’s Record Shop

While this is such an exciting development, there is something to the art of collecting only the vintage copies. Rather than placing an order for the new Bruno Mars or Taylor Swift, Alison’s Record Shop sticks to the classics with a focus on vintage records. Stop by Davidson Dr and talk with knowledgeable staff from 12 – 5 pm Wednesday through Sunday. Grab a punch card and try for a free record after a few visits and maybe even see if they are interested in a trade for some of your own collection. At Alison’s Record Shop, they care about the music that built us rather than what’s being produced now. Check out their “Third Man Live” series, a series of live albums recorded from the Third Man Nashville/Detroit stages that do not get published digitally. One part bar, one part record store, Vinyl Tap is a chill watering hole on Greenwood Ave that is home to everything you could possibly want to enjoy an evening of fun out with friends. From the expansive vinyl collection to a selection of cocktails, beers, and shareable bites, Vinyl Tap has the makings of a movie style scene out on the town. There is even a special club for frequent shoppers, allowing you to save money when spending on vinyl. Record collecting can get expensive, especially when you’re following all of the new releases that Vinyl Tap keeps around. Join their 33 & ? club to save a few bucks on your next favorite album. On Monday and Tuesday every week, visit from 3 – 10 pm and come in after noon during the rest of their open days. Though this is technically a bar, all ages are allowed to come in to browse the musical selections. (Bonus points to anyone that has seen the movie that their name is based on, there’s nothing quite like watching This is Spinal Tap on VHS)
Jimbo’s Records and Tapes

What once began as six crates worth of records in the back of A Daisy A Day, an antique store in Gallatin, Jimbo’s Records and Tapes has grown into the quaint spot on Music Valley Dr that Nashville loves. New, used, old, and rare albums are all in abundance at Jimbo’s Records and Tapes. Find Jimbo’s collection right across from the Opryland Hotel and don’t expect to spend too much money on anything you’ll find out of this used selection of vinyl and tapes. Step inside of the booth they have inside and find an array of art, knick knacks and collectables, Jimbo’s is bound to keep you wanting to look for more. During the week, Jimbo’s Records and Tapes is happy to see you from 10 am – 7 pm with varying hours on the weekends.
Grimey’s New & Preloved Music

Over the years, this store has grown into the large selection lining shelf after shelf at Grimey’s. Brand new and gently used books, magazines, and movies also have a home with countless records. Look into their events calendar to stay informed on what’s happening at Grimey’s. From album release listening parties to live performances and Q & A’s, Grimey’s New & Preloved Music is more than just a record store. These folks love music and that shows from the second you walk inside. Maybe you will catch a show next time you decide to make a trip through a piece of old Nashville preserved. Browse around either of the two floors from 11 am until at least 6 pm every day except Monday when they close.
Phonoluxe Records Music

Only open on the weekends, Phonoluxe is a treat for those willing to visit them on Nolensville Pk from Friday through Sunday. Browse through a vast collection of names you know, some you don’t, and maybe something you haven’t thought about since way back in the day.Thousands upon thousand of different records are constantly in stock but don’t worry, the labeling is actually fairly easy to navigate. Plus, the Phonoluxe employees are well known for their ability to remember where each and every record is stored at any given moment. Though the area might appear busy when you first arrive, don’t let that turn you away. There is more than enough vinyl for everyone who walks in to Phonoluxe Records Music.
The Great Escape

Much like the name of this store, The Great Escape truly does provide one solid escape for those that decide to come into their location on Charlotte Ave in the Richland Creek Shopping Center. Vinyl, comics, CD’s, toys and collectables are only the most basic description of everything that The Great Escape has going on. Throughout much of Tennessee, not just here in Nashville, finding The Great Escape is not too hard as they have many locations in the state. As long as there is something out there to collect or music to listen to, The Great Escape will have reason to fill their shelves. Classic video game enthusiasts will be thrilled to find their selection of vintage games, you can even bring your own in to sell. Among plenty of new and used vinyl, this shop continues to grow its inventory regularly and there is no way to know what will change from one visit to the next. Wednesday through Sunday, The Great Escape is ready to eat up at least a couple of hours out of your day from 12 pm – 7 pm.
Swaggie Records

This shop is open every day and the folks at Swaggie are happy to help you find the vinyl of your dreams from 10 am – 6 pm any day that you want to walk in. McKay’s Nashville

Before online music sharing and streaming services took over (and completely changed) the music industry as we know it, folks would have the option of trading paid media with friends, waiting in long lines for new releases, and borrowing from the local library. Since those days are long behind us, the general art of physical copies has been lost on the newer generations. Sticking to the concept of ingesting media the way we used to, McKay’s Nashville is somewhere where you can purchase a book and then return it for store credit to trade for another. Since their opening in 2007, the Nashville branch of McKay’s has kept a wide selection of new and used books, music, collectables and much more. While their focus does center mostly around literature, there is no shortage of vinyl, tapes, and cds to browse through. From 9 am – 10 pm every day outside of Sunday (when their hours are 10 am – 7 pm) you can visit Mckay’s Nashville on Old Hickory Rd and see what they have in store for you.
Luna Records

Not quite in Nashville, but only a small trip to Franklin, Luna Records is located inside of The Factory at Franklin, a shopping center that keeps more than just the vinyl shop. Buy or trade any of your old audios or equipment at Luna Records and see just how much these sister owners can fit into one store. Locally owned and operated by Franklin natives, Luna Records is worth a trip out of Nashville just to see what is on the shelves. Ask about their rewards card and become a frequent shopper. More punches in the card means you’re that much closer to accessing savings on your favorite tunes. Outside of Sundays, you can come by from 12 – 5 pm any other day to Luna Records.
