In my previous post I wrote a review on baby walkers and highlighted on the negative effects they have on your child's development .
Many parents think that baby walkers actually help in training babies to walk in a short period of time but this isn't true at all.Most researches have actually proved that walkers can slow down development and can be a danger to your baby.Check out the full article in the main page.
Good thing though ,there are some alternatives that you can use that are much more safer and comfortable .Safety and effectiveness is what I have considered most in compiling this short list of baby walker alternatives.Here we go;
1. Do it naturally
Nothing can be fulfilling than being part of child's every stage of development.One of the main reasons I discouraged the use of walkers is that it is an unnatural way ro train babies.What is more effective is teach your baby to walk without the aid of machines .The process of walking involve a lot ,your baby has to learn to stand balancing on objects .After that they will learn to take steps and it is crucial at this stage that they see their feet.This is a much faster way to teach babies to walk and makes them strong and more willing to participate in the learning process because mom is there to cheer them up.
2.Play center / nursery
You can buy these on amazon at affordable prices and good thing is they come in a 'diy' package and very easy to install.Basically a play center is portable nursery room that you can put your baby in as they play with toys and relax.The walls of the centre can help your baby to balance and walk around them .Unlike in a baby walker where your baby usually stand on their toes,the play centre allows your baby to completely free and can walk on their feet .the walls also provide great safety for the baby while you do other chores.
3.Activity Station
This is a bit similar to a baby walker but the main difference is that an activity station is always stationary and has a lot of space for baby to play on.The major concern about baby walkers is that they can simply roll and hurt your baby.With an activity station your baby stays tucked in one comfortable place without the risk of fall on the stairs or reaching for dangerous objects.Some designs come with lights on the dashboard to give extra entertainment to your baby.
4. Baby bouncer
One of the most traditional baby accessories and recommended by most baby care specialists .This device is used to secure and provide exercise to your baby.It basically consist of a hoop and elastic straps that attach to a chair.Most modern designs now come with music options ,lights and toys .It provides more security and safety than the baby walker.There are plenty of designs out there so can choose one that suots your needs and budget.
