The Los Angeles Dodgers won the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes.
It cost them $325 million over 12 years, but they got their man to pair with Shohei Ohtani at the top of the rotation for years to come.
They won the race to sign him over the New York Mets and the New York Yankees.
The Mets, in particular, were very aggressive in their pursuit: they flew to Japan to meet with Yamamoto before everybody else, then they hosted him and his team in New York.
The Mets made it very clear they wanted to sign Yamamoto.
In a chat with team insider Mike Puma, owner Steve Cohen said he has no regrets.
“Steve Cohen spoke with Mike Puma of The New York Post on missing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto: ‘I think the whole organization tried our hardest, and someone was going to win and someone was going to lose and that is the way it goes. I feel good about our efforts and I left it all on the field. Life goes on,'” SNY Mets tweeted, with Cohen’s remarks.

The owner also explained what is next for the Mets.
“We’re going to be thoughtful and not impulsive and thinking about sustainability over the intermediate long-term, but not focused on winning the headlines over the next week. I think there’s a couple of ways to build a team,” he stated.
The Mets still have several options, either via free agency or trade.
The reigning NL Cy Young, Blake Snell, remains unsigned, and former Cy Young award winners Corbin Burnes and Shane Bieber can be had via trade.
The Mets could also sign Shota Imanaga, bring back Marcus Stroman, or negotiate with Jordan Montgomery.
Staying put and focusing on a big run for 2025 is also an option.
We will all just have to wait and see what they do.
