The Los Angeles Dodgers won 100 games in the 2023 campaign, taking the NL West in the process.
A decimated rotation, however, was their undoing: they lost in the first round of the postseason, against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Division Series.
They were no match for them.
To be fair, injuries and the Julio Urias legal situation took away the overall pitching depth and left the team in bad shape.
Now, however, the organization has spent important resources to improve the situation in the rotation.
The difference is night and day, and team insider Noah Camras illustrates it.
“Dodgers’ 2023 NLDS: Game 1: Injured Clayton Kershaw; Game 2: Rookie Bobby Miller; Game 3: Lance Lynn. Potential 2024 Postseason: Game 1: Yoshinobu Yamamoto; Game 2: Tyler Glasnow; Game 3: Walker Buehler; Game 4: Bobby Miller. An incredible turnaround from LA fixing their No. 1 issue,” he tweeted.

Basically, the Dodgers went from having Clayton Kershaw, Bobby Miller, and Lance Lynn in the playoff rotation to boasting Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1.21 ERA in Japan this year), Tyler Glasnow (162 strikeouts in 120 innings with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023), Walker Buehler (injured in 2023, but back to full health for 2024), and the talented Miller with two years of experience under his belt.
To think that Shohei Ohtani will be joining the rotation in 2025, when he is healthy enough to pitch, is amazing.
The Dodgers saw a weakness in their rotation and quickly acted to solve it.
That’s the mark of really good teams: the proactivity to solve a glaring issue.
There is still work to be done, as the organization might be cooking up some additional moves.
Stay tuned.
