I’m focusing on the important ones. The latest on top.

Boston Red Sox hired Craig Breslow as their new PBO. Let’s see how long he lasts.

San Francisco Giants hired Bob Melvin as their new manager. We’ll see how it will go. The Houston Astros are losing their manager Dusty Baker, but they’ll be fine.

Arizona Diamondbacks extended GM Mike Hazen through 2028 in a good move.

Terry Francona stepped down as the manager of the Cleveland Guardians.

Los Angeles Angels predictably fired manager Phil Nevin.

New York Mets predictably fired manager Buck Showalter.

Colorado Rockies re-signed DH Charlie Blackmon for 1 year/$13 million (with $2 million in incentives). Solid move. He might have another good season and it’s only a one year deal.

San Francisco Giants fired manager Gabe Kapler. It’s a questionable move considering he didn’t build this flawed team.

The Detroit Tigers hired Jeff Greenberg as their new GM. We’ll see how it goes.

The Boston Red Sox fired GM Chaim Bloom in a long overdue decision.

The Washington Nationals agreed to a multi-year extension with GM Mike Rizzo in a good move.

The New York Mets hired David Stearns as their new President of Baseball Operations, in a good move for them.

I wrote about some other moves on Marlin Maniac.

Chicago White Sox fired GM Rick Hahn and EVP Ken Williams in an overdue move. Chris Getz was made the GM in a later move.

Washington Nationals extended manager Dave Martinez for 2 years with a club option. Solid move that could work out.

Miami Marlins traded 3B Jean Segura and Minor League SS Kahlil Watson to the Cleveland Guardians for new 1B Josh Bell. The Fish got rid of a bad signing who Cleveland will release, and an upgrade at first base, though at a high cost. Good trade for Cleveland as they received a former top prospect for their own bad contract.

Miami Marlins traded injury-prone and struggling 1B Garrett Cooper and Minor League pitcher Sean Reynolds to the San Diego Padres for RP Ryan Weathers. Cooper is a free agent after the season, so The Fish moved on early and received a solid return. Solid though irrelevant deal for San Diego. Weathers is an interesting high upside depth piece.

The San Diego Padres possibly improved their bullpen by acquiring Scott Barlow from the Kansas City Royals, for prospects Henry Williams and Jesus Rios. KC sold low.

The New York Yankees traded a future bottom of the rotation starting pitcher, in prospect Juan Carela to the Chicago White Sox for RP Keynan Middleton. Good move for the owners of the best bullpen in the Majors and another bad one for Chicago.

The Baltimore Orioles continued to disappoint their fans, by making SP Jack Flaherty their big starting pitching acquisition. They traded Minor Leaguers Cesar Prieto, Drew Rom and Zack Showalter. It was a good trade for St. Louis, as Flaherty is a bottom of the rotation starter and is a free agent after the season. The fact that they have a good farm system and he’s their big acquisition is embarassing.

The New York Mets traded LF Tommy Pham to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Minor League SS Jeremy Rodriguez. Obvious move for the Mets, as their farm improved a bit more. Pham isn’t a difference maker but will help Arizona’s depth. Solid deal for both teams.

The New York Yankees acquired Minor League SP Spencer Howard from the Texas Rangers for cash. Texas didn’t need him and the Bronx Bombers wanted more starting pitching depth.

More trades happened that I covered on Marlin Maniac. Much more. The latter link talks about a bad trade by the Chicago White Sox, but a good one for the Miami Marlins.

The Chicago Cubs continued their questionable buyer’s strategy, by acquiring upcoming free agent 3B Jeimer Candelario from the Washington Nationals for prospects DJ Herz and Kevin Made. Good trade for Washington.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finally solidified their bullpen with closer Paul Sewald from the Seattle Mariners. Seattle sent prospects Dominic Canzone and Ryan Bliss, and IF Josh Rojas. Good trade for both teams.

The Cleveland Guardians gambled by trading SP Aaron Civale to the Tampa Bay Rays for prospect 1B Kyle Manzardo. Good depth move for Tampa Bay.

Texas solidified their rotation by acquiring upcoming free agent Jordan Montgomery from the St. Louis Cardinals, along with RP Chris Stratton for Minor Leaguers John King, Thomas Saggese and Tekoah Rudy. Montgomery is a bottom of the rotation arm, but is what Texas needed. Solid trade for both teams. St. Louis then acquired Minor Leaguers Sem Robberse and Adam Kloffenstein from the Toronto Blue Jays for RP Jordan Hicks. Solid trade for both teams, that gives Toronto a slightly better bullpen.

The Colorado Rockies finally did the right thing at the trade deadline, shipping away upcoming free agents 1B C.J. Cron and CF Randal Grichuk to the hapless Los Angeles Angels for Minor League pitchers Jake Madden and Mason Albright. The Angels are trying to have the worst farm system in the game, while still missing the playoffs.

The Texas Rangers doubled down on their commitment to risky players, by acquiring overpaid and declining SP Max Scherzer from the New York Mets for prospect Luisangel Acuna. Good deal for the Mets and a very risky one for Texas. That said, the Mets are also paying most of Scherzer’s contract, except for $22.5 million.

Cincinnati Reds extended manager David Bell for 3 years in a good move.

Los Angeles Dodgers acquired SP Lance Lynn and RP Joe Kelly from the Chicago White Sox for pitching prospects Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure and OF Trayce Thompson. Solid trade that’s more about solid innings than upside for LA.

Houston Astros acquired free agent to be RP Kendall Graveman from the rebuilding Chicago White Sox for Minor League C Korey Lee in a good trade for both sides, that won’t really make much of a difference in the short-term for Houston.

The Miami Marlins heavily improved the bullpen, by acquiring RP David Robertson from the New York Mets for rookie ball prospects Marco Vargas and Ronald Hernandez. Excellent trade for The Fish and a good logical one for the Mets, as he’s a free agent at the end of the season and they’re not going to the playoffs.

In a move that won’t save their season, the Los Angeles Angels acquired SP Lucas Giolito and RP Reynaldo López from the Chicago White Sox for Minor League C Edgar Quero and Minor League LHP Ky Bush. Good move for Chicago.

In an interesting deal, the Miami Marlins traded RP Dylan Floro to the Minnesota Twins for RP Jorge López. Both are righties.

The Los Angeles Dodgers upgraded considerably at SS, acquiring Amed Rosario from the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland has enough middle IF depth where it was a good move for them, especially with Rosario hitting free agency after the season. Cleveland will be receiving SP Noah Syndergaard, who was a flop in LA.

Texas Rangers acquired potential new closer Aroldis Chapman from the Kansas City Royals in a great move. KC received RP Cole Ragans and Minor League OF Roni Cabrera in a light return. KC needed to trade him, but for a better return.

Arizona Diamondbacks extended Manager Torey Lovullo in a good move.

Pittsburgh Pirates extended CF Bryan Reynolds for 8 years/$106.75 million in a good move for Pitrsburgh.

Pittsburgh Pirates extended Manager Derek Shelton in a good move.

The San Francisco Giants extended SP Logan Webb for 5 years/$90 million in a solid move despite his bad start to the season.

Chicago Cubs extended LF Ian Happ for 3 years/$61 million in a solid move.
