The Dodgers entered the offseason with a big question mark around the status of their future Hall of Fame pitcher, Clayton Kershaw. Once again a free agent, Kershaw’s return to the Dodgers is inextricably tied to the health of his left shoulder and his desire to pitch near his home in Dallas.
In November, Kershaw underwent surgery to repair the gleno-humeral ligaments and capsule in his left shoulder. His shoulder was bothering him throughout the second half last season, and he isn’t scheduled to pitch until late summer in 2024. The Dodgers remain an option for Kershaw, but so do his hometown Texas Rangers.
Kershaw has been with the Dodgers for his entire career, and it would look strange to see him in a different uniform.
In an interview with our very own Doug McKain, new Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow gave his thoughts on what he’s admired about Kershaw over the years. Glasnow grew up a Dodger fan, and one of his favorite players was Kershaw.
“His mentality. Watching him pitch, he was always very, just focused and very serious,” Glasnow said. “He takes his craft very seriously and he’s obsessed with it and he’s a fierce competitor. And everyone’s seen how fiery he is on the mound, and I’ve always appreciated that about him.”

“He’s done it for so long and he’s really never lost that fire and that’s extremely impressive,” Glasnow said. “He’s always just been so driven and he’s never lost any of that fire.”
Per Tyler Glasnow via The Dodgers Nation YouTube ChannelThe hope is that Kershaw decides to come back to the Dodgers next season. Glasnow would then get to play alongside a pitcher he watched growing up. That would be a full-circle moment for the Santa Clarita native, and potentially allow Kershaw to finish his career with the only team that he has ever known.
