Ten days ago, the transaction period in Belgium ended, so it is time to sum up the new players and leaving players for each Division 1 team. We start with the reigning champions: Deurne Spartans.
The Deurne Spartans celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023, and as a cherry on the pie, the club won the Belgian championship (their fifth overall) as well.
The club didn’t make many transactions. Only one player left and three new players were added to the roster.
The player that left the club, has decided to call it quits: Rafael Duran.
The three new players that were added to the roster are: Mauro van Mook and Viktor Vandervelden (both coming from Borgerhout Squirrels), and Tony Chaibub of Canticrode Baseball Stars from Mortsel. Mauro van Mook was mainly used as pitcher but he played as a DH as well but he didn’t manage to get a hit in the few at-bats he got. On the mound he posted a 4-5 record with a 5.14 ERA. In his wins, his ERA was very good. But he also got a lot of no decisions and in those games, his ERA kind of skyrocketed, which explains hit 5+ ERA.
Viktor Vandervelden was mainly used as a utility player. His at-bats he posted a sub-par .158. He had three relief outings. In two of them, he managed to keep his ERA at 0.00 but in one outing he struggled as he gave up six earned runs in three innings, leading to a seasonal ERA of 9.00.
The third addition to their roster is Tony Chaibub. With the Cantincrode Baseball Stars, Tony appeared in seven games during the regular season, mostly as DH. At bat, Tony hit a very respectable .304 with two doubles and a home run. In his two games as first bagger, Tony had a perfect fielding percentage.
Eventual future additions from abroad will be mentioned later.
